If you are nursing and you start taking antibiotics (or if the baby starts antibiotics) try to feed the baby bottles of frozen breast milk or formula... Because the antibiotics will cause thrush--both in the baby's mouth and in your nipples. You then have to get a prescription for both the baby and your breasts.
You can also try to prevent it with probiotics. Here's an article: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/thrush/preventing-thr...

we battled it and I found dr. sears website helpful
Thrush is an over growth of yeast in the mouth. If your baby has white patches in his mouth he probably has thrush. I don't think there is any way of preventing it. We all have yeast in our systems and it's a systemic break down that allows it to grow too much.
Eating yogurt or taking probiatics will often help you avoid thrush. My boys used to get a yeast rash when they took antibiotics and my doctor told me to try feeding them yogurt. It worked. If you're breast feeding, you would have to be the one eating the yogurt.
My older son had white spots on the inside of his cheeks. When my younger son got it, we didn't realize at first because the spots were on his toungue. At first we just thought he hadn't swallowed yet. We didn't always look at his toungue, so it was a few days. Also, I had very sore nipples. I started putting the piecese together and called the doctor.
Thrush is a yeast infection and requires antibiotics to treat. There will be a white layer on the inside of the mouth that looks like milk but will not come off. If not treated, this layer thickens and becomes very painful. All of my kids got it and were treated with Nystatin. I am not aware of any way of prevention.
