It could be just breast milk, that happened to my son too and all you have to do is take a warm washcloth and wipe it and it will come off. That should be all it is.
My 6 month old breast fed son has had a white coating on the back of his tongue for the last week or two. I thought it might be thrush, but doesn't seem to bother him. When I tried to scrape some off with my finger, a little came off, but I read that thrush can be red and bleeding if you scrape it, and his was not. WHat else could this be and what do I do about it?

Hi R.. A little white on the back of a baby's tongue is normal...especially if a week or two has gone by. My second little guy also had the little coating and I brushed it off at first to just the normal thing...then within a FEW DAYS it progressed and got thicker and then was on the roof of his mouth and the sides of his mouth...it was GROWING. VERY GROSS...but I knew exactly what it was and then the worst thing was that I GOT IT in my breasts, which was the most painful thing EVER. So I really think if it was thrush, by now it would've progressed...you would know something wasn't right. But a little white on the tongue (not thick) is normal. Hope that helped.
More than likely it's just from the breast milk. Like one of the other mom's said, if it has been a couple of weeks and nothing has progressed it's probably just from the milk. If it still concerns you, it never hurts to ask his pediatrician! Mom always knows best...
Go to your doctor and they can treat you and baby and get rid of it. It does SOUNd like trush but have a doctor confirm it before starting any treatment! A.
sounds like thrush and since you're breastfeeding you are passing it back and forth between the two of you.. You need to take him to the doctor for medicine to clear it up..
sounds like thrush. don't scrape. thrush is usu. white coating. it's yeast. if you are nursing, beware, you may be giving it back and forth to each other. baby needs a med. to get rid of it. call dr.
