Three Yr Old Grinding Her Teeth at Night.

Hi Mamas, My three yr old daughter grinds her teeth as she sleeps. It sounds awful! Up until about a month ago I let her use a pacifer while she slept. Which seemed to keep the grinding to a minimum. She was at the dentist about a year ago and I told him that she grinds her teeth at night and he did not seem concerned. He said most kids out grow it and not to worry. Since it seems as though it is getting worse should I put the pacifer in her mouth when she is sleeping to stop the grinding? We are going to the dentist in about two weeks.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Any one else have experience with teeth grinding? How long does it last? How did you get it to stop?
Thanks, A.

My daughter does it too, the dentist said it is almost normal and there is really nothing they will do b/c they will not make night guards for such a young age. There has not been any damage to her teeth. As long as you keep taking her in for her checkups and get xrays, she should be fine!

Hi A.,

My 3 year old does this too. The sounds of it makes the hair on my arms stand up---I swear I can hear it in the next room! She also has not had any damage to her teeth. We took the paci away at 6 months and the teeth grinding didn't start until about a month ago, so I don't think giving the pacifier back would help any. I wish I knew what to do to stop this, but maybe it is just a phase she will outgrow.

My 6 year old does it, too. The dr and dentsit both say he'll out grow it. The dentist checks for damage, none yet. Nothing to stop it. Can't wait till he out grows it! Until then, I cover my ears when I check in on him...oooh that sound!!!
