Thoughts on Why So Soon?

My husband and I dtdeed March 7th. He was in a car accident 3 days later so I know the 7th would be the date to go by. It's only been 11 days after and I am already nauseous, the line showed up within a few seconds to verify pregnancy and I have had dreams about twins. My husband also said right after he saw the line (I think more jokingly) that "we're gonna have twins. I laughed. :)
My question is that with both my other kids, it took at least four weeks before a faint line showed up. This morning, it showed up so quickly and so soon after conceiving. Could I possibly be having twins? They don't run on either side of the family but would be exciting if it did happen. I set an appointment to verify with a pregnancy test at a clinic that's free, but hoping to hear back before the appointment what your thoughts were.

What can I do next?

Perhaps you got pregnant the month before you think. You could have had break through bleeding from the pregnancy that you mistakenly thought of as your period. Best of luck!

Every pregnancy is different.
It might be twins - or it might not.
Just relax and wait and see.
Saving money by using a free clinic is fine - but how expensive do you think a baby (or twins) would be?
Excitement over being pregnant and worrying about how you're going to afford it is not a pleasant combination.

Every pregnancy is different. Who knows. It could be twins. It could be that you have been pregnant longer than you think. It could be that your test is more sensitive than what you used before. It could be a difference in your urine (first morning urine has more concentrated levels of hcg hormones... maybe you were also a little dehydrated and this resulted in even higher concentrations or something?). It could be a different sex baby thank your previous one(s) --you didn't say if you have one of each already, or two boys or two girls.

I know with my son, everything was new, and I was pretty nauseated and ill the entire pregnancy. With my daughter, it was the same, but started earlier and was more severe throughout.

There's really no way to say for sure. But the most sensitive tests can detect the pregnancy hormones as early as 6 days after implantation. So, it's not out of the realm of possibility that it just picked up on your (singleton) pregnancy earlier than previous testing.

Try not to expect any particular details. Just go see your doctor and see what they say. I'd personally guess that you got pregnant LAST month and just didn't realize it.

Either way, congratulations!

An early response on a test does not indicate twins, but of course you still have just as much chance as anyone else so maybe you will get lucky if twins is what you are hoping for :)

Identical twins are totally random...whereas fraternal twins tend to run in families.

A friend of mine had triplets a set of identicals and one fraternal...all girls. Surprise pregnancy and surprise triplets (as not even twins run in their family).

I hope all is well with you and your pregnancy however it turns out one, two or more.

Congrats!!

Did you use an early response pregnancy test?

The couples I know who had twins had twins run in their families. They were surprised when they were told the news, so I don't think they had prior knowledge based on their symptoms.
