This Mama Hates Drinking Water, But. . .

I have always hated water and have been a soda fanatic. Now I'm trying to drink more water, and to do so, I add those 'ready-to-go' drink powder to my water bottles so I can actually drink water. They claim to be fat free, calorie free, etc.

Thing is, I've been drinking up to 60 oz water a day, adding those packets each time to the bottles. Is this stuff actually ok for you to add to your water, without any added calories, sugar, etc?? I'm skeptical.

I am like you I'm not a fan of water either. I started to use those packs but heard horrible things about the health risks of artificial sweetners so I did like the other poster did I started drinking sun tea and lemonade from frozen concentrate and juices from frozen concentrate. I add more water than recommended to cut down on the calories and sweetness, but it is better than soda and plain water.

I am the same way. I dont like plain water or soda. I used those packets but then worried about the chemicals....! So I started brewing large quantities of iced tea. just get decaf tea bags and a big pot. then we just pour it into a container with a pour spout(walmart for like 6 bucks) and there you go. Its just tea and water. also try seltzer or soda water. just make sure you get the sodium free kind. When I was pregnant the only thing that cured my sickness, was bubbly water. But san pellegrino is too expensive. so I found the dominicks store brand of soda and seltzer water. I was skeptical but I am addicted to them and its only a buck for six cans!!!! its just carbonated water!!! if you find something else, please share!!!!

Hi!
I know, I enjoy my diet coke as much as the next person but I have switched to buying diet rite in the really tiny cans and I don't drink more than 1 little can a day. I have read EVERYWHERE about the negative health effects of nutrasweet.. in fact your brain supposedly perceives it as even sweeter than natural sugar and you DO get a buzz from it.. I know I love the taste of it too so I hear ya girlfriend.. I'm hooked too..but I do feel better when I only drink a little bit of it..

I can't offhand remember all of the negative things about nutrasweet but from the professional articles I read.. its BAD for you and to definitely use it in moderation.. you do NOT want to be adding that stuff to everything you drink.. and tea and lemonade are fine but if you are counting calories.. they all have a lot of sugar in them too.. so.. everything in moderation.> I know.. I don't like drinking water either but it is SO good for your whole body and organs..
if you google the topic you will find all sorts of negative things on nutrasweet and artificial sweetners..so let me know what you find.. it always serves me as a constant reminder when I read those articles to not drink much of the stuff.. but it is HARD!
so.. good luck and drink most of your water PLAIN!

The chemicals in that stuff, IMHO, are horrible for you!
I like water, and that is pretty much all I drink except my 1 morning cup of coffee. It can get a little boring so I often add thinly sliced cucumber (sounds odd, but really good), lemon, lime, oranges, etc.
If you are used to drinking overly sweet chemically drinks it may take a little while for your taste to adjust, but adding the sliced fruit should help.
Good for you though for trying to switch, I promise you will feel better once you switch from the pop and drink powders to water.

Maybe you can start by cutting down on the strength of the packets you use... add half a packet to each bottle instead of a full one. Then the next week cut it back to 1/4 of a packet. That will help you get used to the taste of plain water. Adding a little lemon juice helps too.

Or, try and substitute tea for some of your water... herbal teas or green tea taste good AND have no calories or sugar or artificial sweeteners.

When I did Weight Watchers a few years ago, they told me that those say there are no calories per serving, but if you drink a lot of it a day, like I did, then there is some. I think you can look on the box, or go to their website, but there is calories in it - according to Weight Watchers.

I can't believe that someone is posting about this topic - I feel like its ironic being that I just went through 4 years of testing with my husband to have recently found out that he has an "illness" called aspartame toxicity which was causing him to have so many horrible desvastating ailments and we could not figure out why no medicine would cure him. We finally had him diagnosed by a naturopathic physician and a chinese medicine doctor a few months ago and one of the main things he had to do IMMEDIATELY was get off of all aspartame and artificial sweeteners. I have read and read and read and done more research than I ever wanted to do but I can definitely say I am a "wannabe" expert on artificial sweeteners. Without getting into a long posting, and I mean LONG, I can tell you and everyone else out there to cut out the diet drinks and other diet foods. They are completely toxic. If you want specifics I can talk to you or email. Feel free if you need more info.

have you tried just adding fresh lemon juice to the water? Are you drinking tap or filtered water?
