Thinking of Having Baby #3

I could have written your post-- I'm having mine removed this week! Since the hormones in the Mirena only work on the lining of your uterus (most women still ovulate when they have the Mirena in), return to fertility should be quick. Since most women don't get periods on the Mirena, one recommendation is to wait at least one cycle/period after having the Mirena removed to re-thicken the uterine lining. This will also help with more accurate dating of the pregnancy.

Hi K.. they usually recommend that you wait a few months so that your cycle can get back to normal. I never had Mirena but I did take the pill which is the same hormones and was told to wait atleast one cycle but was pregnant a month after stopping it really just depends on your body but if you had no problem in the past you shouldnt have a problem now. Hi K...I had my mirena for one year, had it taken out in January and MD preferred that we wait to get pregnant right away; atleast 3-4 months.

So,we've been trying since.I have had one miscarriage.Our first son is 2 and I got pregnant on the Pill?? So, I am feeling discouraged by having the mirena.

I had a mirena after 2nd baby. Once it was out, I got pregnant 2 months later. Didn't seem to have any impact on my fertility.... Good luck!

I had my Mirena removed on Halloween of 07 and conceived my 3rd child in March. My other 2 pregnancies happened while I was on the pill and I was expecting to get pregnant right away. It didnt happen until I relaxed and stopped worrying about it..sure enough it happened that month. Also, remember that some people try for years so if it takes a few months or even 6 it is completely normal!!

Hi K.: I am a mom, but also a women's healthcare provider, so have experience w/ Mirena from that perspective. If you want to get pregnant, remove the Mirena and let your body resume it's regular cycles. Because of the small amount of progesterone in the Mirena, it varies on the amount of time to return to fertility. Some women get pregnant almost immediately and others need to let their bodies adjust for several months. Try to be patient! You could see it as a time to get ready for getting pregnant: starting vitamins, etc. Good Luck!

I work at a GYN office (almost 10 yrs!) so i'm very familiar with the Mirena, although i don't use it myself. I'm a mom of a terrific 3 yr old girl also :) So i guess i'm giving you the "clinical" answer and not necessarily my personal experience. The Mirena can be easily removed at your ob/gyn office - your primary care doc may also be willing to do it (they just yank that sucker out - gently of course). once it's removed your fertility should return pretty quickly - days or a few weeks, it varies person to person. Fertility returns faster after the Mirena than b.c. pills even.

I had the Mirena IUD in from July 2006 to July 2007. My hubby and I decided to go for #3 and I got my mirena removed July 13th 2007. I got my first period July 15th. I got a positive test result in August and my baby was born in April. A lot of people said to wait a month or two after having it removed but my OB said we were good to go right away and we didn't hesitate. Good luck and sending lots of preggy vibes to you.
