My family and extended family are spending next week in South Haven. All our children are under the age of 5. What are some family friendly things to do, restaurants to eat at, date night ideas, etc? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Your 3.5 yr old will probably enjoy the maritime museum. You can bring bikes or rent and ride on the Kal-Haven trail. Definitely hit Sherman's ice cream on Phoenix Rd. Primarily, we spend our time there on the beach. It's hard to keep my daughter (also 3.5) out of the sand for any length of time and we spend a week there every summer. Enjoy!

You're making me want to go! We love the "Idler" not sure about the spelling but you can't miss it. It is the boat that stays put. Clemintines is a classic. I think we saw Finding Nemo in the quant little theater there a while back. have fun

My husband and I like to go to two B&B's in South Haven. We haven't taken our kids there with us. However, I do agree with Sherman's and bike riding. I also agree that we like to just relax on the beach. There are many families there who make a day out of building sand castles and so on. To eat, Clementine's is a favorite. However, be prepard for a wait if you are going during the peak eating times. I think another casual restaurant we've eaten at is called the Thirsty Perch....or something like that. Also, you are only about 30 minutes or so from Saugatuck (sp?). You might want to take a drive there.

I haven't yet been to South Haven with my son (born this past September) but I've been a few times and we are going again in August. I can't wait. I love it. It's a simple little town - I'd say your family fun will be at the beach. But there is also a walking/biking trail, sailboat rides, various festivals (check online), and a super cheap movie theater. You can also go berry picking, depending on the season. The Phoenix Cafe is great for lunch. And for date night, try Tellos or drive out to Fenn Valley winery and do wine tasting. I'll probably be back to the Thirsty Perch as well for the blueberry beer.
