T.K.
I learned that even if I stack laundry on the coffee table high enough to block his view of the tv - he still will not put it away.
Don't watch TV and walk at the same time, the walls will move and get you. (Broken toe)
Aging like a fine wine does not apply to those wines that have a screw top. (Yuck)
I seriously do not think I have enough patience to home school for Kindergarten. (my daughter is going to miss the age deadline by 26 days so we thought about homeschooling until first grade)
Have you learned anything new this week?
Jill, No..I didn't even know you could do that! I'll look into it. Thanks!
Thanks for the added about Private schools! I will check it out!
I learned that even if I stack laundry on the coffee table high enough to block his view of the tv - he still will not put it away.
It's been a busy two weeks here, and I'm learning a lot.
Schlepping all over my old college with my daughter to sell her Girl Scout cookies, taught me that I am way more out of shape than I thought I was.
Next year, skip the shortbread cookies, order more Caramel Delites.
Being nearly late to my brother's promotion ceremony taught me that my time-management skills need major help.
When on a mini-vacation, pack breakfast. Paying $8 for a child's breakfast buffet is even more aggravating, when the child takes only one bite of pancake. (At least she drank the milk! So I essentially paid $8 for a glass of milk. Next time, I'm taking a cooler with those little milk boxes they have now, and pocketing the $8.)
The five pounds that I've gained since August now makes me look "HUGE." My picture labels on the toy bins makes me "OCD." --according to my negative MIL who felt the need to throw me under the bus to my SIL.....after we hosted them for a couple of days in the middle of the work week.
Not bitter. Really. (written in sarcasm font)
Sorry about your moving walls and yucky wine. Have you talked to the school district about having your daughter tested and have her start early? That is what we are doing.
That I'm not a musical schizophrenic, I'm just "Eclectic". And really, really deep in a "80s-90s Chick Rock Rut" at the moment. And that's ok.
And it's really fun to teach your little boys the finer points of moshing in front of youtube while you compile a list. Even more fun when your older, ridiculously conservative husband walks in from work in his suit/tie to see it...and joins in. :D
I cannot change that which is out of my control (unfortunately a LOT of things right now)
I can only put forth my best and nothing more - it HAS to be enough..
Sometimes life changes course when you least expect it...welcome the detour... :-)
Don't tell all your business to a trusted family member....it only turns into gossip!
You can't "do it all" and "keep smiling" at the same time.
and
Sleeping more than 3 hours a night is (YAWN) overrated.
have i learned anything new this week ..
you can indeed hold a squirming toddler and close the fridge with your foot.
allergies suck,
never sneeze on a black shirt..yuck
if you really want to get a stalling toddler out the door quickly, tell them they cant go with you, they will race you to the door
K. h.
oooh I'm sorry about your broken toe!!!
You do have the patience to home school - it's just a daunting task!!
I learned that dust DOES accumulate under the TV stand (laughs).
Serious one - I learned that cooking pasta "al dente" makes it break down SLOWER in your system so you don't get the blood sugar spike.
Sorry about the toe. About homeschooling ~ you have already been teaching your child. Walking, eating, going to the bathroom and speaking are some of the things you have taught. Doing school is just an extension of what you are already doing. You will have moments of impatience just as you do now, I'm sure. Once, before I began (and I was scared!), I had a Naturalist from a state park give me great advice that has helped me through the years. He said to start school the same time every day and stick to the basics. Aside from that, much is forgotten, unless they really like the information they are learning. You will influence your child's character and I don't have to convince you of what children today are doing and saying ~ even as young as 5 and 6.
I'm reading a book from Julie Barnhill called "She's Gonna Blow" about motherly anger that I really like. You may not have an issue, but I think we can all learn something from her.
Good luck and hope your toe feels better soon.:)
I learned yesterday that after having 2 surgeries on my left ear drum that they failed and that I need another surgery to correct the last awful horrible two. Its either that or a hearing aid.. at 25 years old. *sigh*
Not looking forward to doing this again..
I also learned that starfishes eyes are on each arm. Seeing it kinda creeped me out lol.
Sorry about your toe!
I learned that my son's karate grandmaster does not believe in using the air conditioner---even when there are 50 students testing for their First, Second and Third Degree Black belts (in full sparring gear) and there are in excess of 100 "guests" in attendance watching the 2 hour ceremony, all in the same space. He just opens the windows. (sigh)
ETA: The test site was in Jacksonville (FL). And for those of you not around this part of the southeast this past weekend, it was almost 80 degrees.
Only want to add to the school thing. A lot of my friends had kids miss it by days. They sent their kids to private school for kindergarten (usually they'll take up to the end of the calendar year to be 5). Then the kids went to public school after that :).
Sorry about the broken toe and yucky wine - what a bad combination!!
1. I Google-mapped Green Cove Springs. I was born and raised in South FL (Boca Raton) and had never heard of Green Cove Springs. Now I know it's near Jax.
2. I learned yesterday on the View that Victoria (Revenge) and Sheldon (Private Practice) have been married for 30 years. NEVER would have put those two together!
Also, be careful with private school enrollment. Our son goes to a Catholic School and my mother teaches at a different Catholic School. They both adhere to the state guidelines regarding birthdays. I don't know if it is for certification or accreditation. *Some* private schools that don't follow state guidelines on birthdays may not be state certified in all areas--just be careful!
Very cute thread. And very funny and true about the wine.
1. Cloth diapers are really expensive.
2.white chocolate doesn't melt very smoothly.
3. French blend freshly ground coffee smells like tuna fish from far away.
4. Pinatas really don't work well hung up after the rain.
5.you can have Braxton hicks contractions multiple times a week for months.
Just a few things.
The broken toe - ouch! So sorry!
But you got the wrong wine, and the screw top really isn't the reason. There are many fine wine makers who are now doing this. Corks won't go away, but a cork doesn't make the wine better. Check out the points ratings for wines - Costco sells some of the same wines as good wine shops and they tell you the points. Over 90 is good wine, whether with a cork or screw top. Binny's is good too, and they have people who can help you.
Dawn
1. Very important meetings and a child's illness always happen on the same day.
2. The day you think you have free and clear will be the one most packed with unforeseen stuff.
3. I find that wine lasts best if tipped, even wines with screw tops. Never store upright. We found that out on our honeymoon, actually--saved a wine bottle for 3 years, only to have it taste like vinegar!
So funny--thanks for posting this!
