I loved it, but I study that time period for fun, so some of it drove me crazy. :-)
I am super excited that Henry Cavill, who played Charles Brandon, is going to be the new Superman.
Does anyone else like this Showtime series? I recently found it on Netflix (after seeing an episode here and there) and now I'm addicted! There are racy scenes so it's definitely not for kids. Otherwise I just love it. I do realize that it is not historically accurate per se.
Anyone out there with me on this one?
Mommy B. - I find myself wanting to go back to that time period every evening, LOL, for my Tudor fix. What will I do when it ends? :P
Oh thank heavens I'm not alone LOL. The acting, the music, the costumes, and yes - Johnathan Rhys-Myers (sp?) - all are fantastic.

I watched all 5 or 6 seasons in one week a few months ago. It was my guilty pleasure ;) I'm fascinated by that era.
My only suggestion would be to pace yourself, cause when it's over, it's over.
ETA: I agree with B.B. that Dexter is really good too. And since were on the topic of good shows, I think Downton Abbey and Breaking Bad are pretty awesome as well.
Absolutely loved it!!!!
I try to never watch stuff when it's running (although I'll have my computer do it to add me to their ratings / go to the website a ton)... But I watch all my favorite shows on my laptop marathon style :) :) :)
The thing about history is that it's almost never dull, despite the best attempts of older Hollywood and history books. It's an untold relief that HBO, Showtime, and some others have been fleshing it out lately!!! (Tudors, Rome, etc.).
Which brings me to point B.... Rome, Band of Brothers... Ah! Stupid head cold! There are more. I just can't think of them at the moment!!
One thing I particularly love about Tudors is that it started when Henry was young and svelte. He was a huge athlete when younger, and even after his injury, while he was heavy, it was the clothing style more than his weight that made him look so obese, as clearly seen when one looks at the art history and LEGS of hundreds of men in the same period. Giant tops and neck beards just add a ton of weight. But until I got into art history, I had no clue. Ditto, the 'private books', often nude portraits of lovers, how sex was dealt with 'at court'... These are all things you don't get in K12 education, and by college most people have been turned off of how boring history is. When the reality is anything but boring OR prim!
ADORE it.
it's so not historically accurate. at all. and i don't care a rap. i love every racy, delicious, delectable screen.
if henry had really looked that good i'd figure out how to time travel AND risk my head!

We loved it. Do without the sex scenes...what??! Jonathan Rhys Meyers is hot! There will be less sex as he gets older though. It transports you into another world. Have you seen True Blood? That and Dexter are our other faves.
Loved everything about that series! Bought them all on DVD afterwards. We would be SO DARN HAPPY if they'd continue the series with Edward, Mary, and then Elizabeth.
Henry Cavil ("Your Grace") is was just the most beautiful guy! Biggest crush I've had since Russell Crowe in The Gladiator!
As for what inaccuracies there were: the quality of the show and the intrigue and drama more than made up for. I dare anyone to find a series anywhere that has NO inaccuracy. Especially in something so dang old! (ha)
The Tudors AND Breaking Bad are my favorite 2 shows to see in a decade or more. If you haven't seen Breaking Bad, rent/purchase/Netflix/whatever you need to do to start from the BEGINNING and watch quickly! Season 5 starts July 15 and I'm beside myself with anticipation! Another decent show (not haute drama, but intriguing enough) is Revenge on ABC I think? Loosely adapted from The Count of Monte Cristo, but "nowadays", it was worth watching. I started that a month ago, watching the past episodes online, and am hooked, looking forward to the next season.
HOOKED.
This was our guilty pleasure a few summers ago. It's a bit gratuitous in some ways, but we were sucked in by how well-done it was. Every episode was epic! The costumes were to die for - can you imagine getting to wear dresses like that? It was all just so beautiful.
I love history and this time period intrigues me. I was willing to forgive certain oversights. =)
Enjoy!
Been there LOVED that :)
Side note Henry Cavill (the Duke) is our next Superman!
I loved that series even though I think the first two seasons were the best.
I liked it but the historical inaccuracies did drive me a bit batty at times. That clothing and those jewels....wow.
You should definitely watch Rome when you are done with the Tudors.
YES:) My husband and I loved it. I could do w/o the waay too many sex scenes, but once you are past that, it is a very great series. Great actors. I just finished the whole series on Netfilx. Started watching it about 3 months ago.
Me too, A.! It is a bummer when it is over...
ETA: I don't think the main character (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is hot, BTW. LOL!! I think he's a great actor but he certainly does not turn me on. He's totally not my type (he has a bit of a "hip-hop" vibe look going on and a hint of Steve-O- Can't really describe it but TOTALLY not hot to me. He's also not tall. Can't really think much of a guy that is not tall... LOL) Having said that, I'm not really one to have a crush on celebrities, (I'm pretty damn picky is why!!!) my husband is my eye candy (HE is #^$&ing HOT!!!).
...BUT if I thought someone was hot on the show it would be Henry Cavill. He's more "handsome" than "hot" though.
I love it love it love it! I started watching at season 3 (finished to the end), so I’m now watching 1 and 2 on Amazon Prime. I was drawn in by the acting, story, costumes and location. It was about 3.5 million per episode – you really do feel transported to that era. Henry Cavil (who portrays Charles Brandon) is a super-hottie. I’m not one to fawn over actors but he is H-O-T. Can’t wait for the new Superman movie out this summer – he’s superman =)
Loved that show! I have all 4 seasons on DVD.
So good!
