What makes you smile?

This morning the boys, my husband and son, are at Boy Scouts. THe girls are in bed. I poured myself a bowl of cereal and look out on the back deck. We have a birdfeeder out there. On the feeder was the most beautiful cardinal.
He was so peaceful, ate some of the sunflower and flew off. What a treat.
We routinely get juncos, chickadees, a purple finch pair and a titmouse. This summer we will have hummingbirds.

Have a great day everyone.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My kids want chickens.
PUrple mom--- my 14 yo actually washed the dishes for her brother last night. She said, You dry, then proceeded to do his chore. That always makes me smile too.

Keep 'em comin' mamas. It's a beautiful spring day south of DC. I hope everyone who reads these can smile a little bit.

This morning I woke up to heavy air since we have the windows open. When I looked outside the birds were dive bombing each other for what is left in the bird feeder. :p Still a perfect morning. :)

We get bats in the summer which I love because they eat the mosquitoes before they eat me.

I suppose it will take me awhile to actually smile about it.
The neighbors got chickens last year and one of them turned out to be a rooster.
Now the bleeping bird is feeling spring coming on and he goes off and crows almost all day long.
We're out in the country, so chickens (and horses and other farm critters) are allowed but the coop is very close to our house and I'm just not loving the rooster very much right now and a well cared for chicken can live to be about 10 years old.
I'll get use to him sooner or later.
The neighbors call him something else, but I call him Oven Stuffer.

Oh my gosh, I love this! Yes, it's the little things that really do make a difference. I could list a thousand little things that make me smile - it makes me smile when I look over and see my son (17) is helping my daughter (14) with her homework. I smile when my dog walks over to me and drops his bone in my lap because he wants to play - and then we run around the house like little kids!

There are so many times when I stop to just think about the little things that make us all smile and happy that we don't even realize.

Like yesterday was the first day I was able to have our windows open and I could hear the birds singing their little hearts out! That made me smile because that means Spring is right around the corner!

Thanks for the posting!!

I also enjoy the birdfeeder, the chirping of the birds, and yes, even the rooster next door (maybe because he isn't RIGHT next to my house, lol).

This morning there was pretty fog lingering over the ground and the sun was peeking through so nicely. Having all the windows open this time of year is SOOO nice. Fresh air and the sounds of spring. Aaaaahhhh.

I also got a kick out of my almost 2 year old trying to do flips by putting her head on the floor. The problem is that she can't actually do it and was pushing her head all over the floor while walking like a bear on all fours.....it made me and the 4 year old LOL.

Enjoy this day!

My simple pleasure at this time is when my almost 14 year old son lets me hug him!

I enjoy watching the birds out the window.... we have a water garden with a trickle tower made out of some wire mesh baskets... I enjoy watching the birds splashing there, and getting a drink... we frequently get white wing doves, mockingbirds, cardinals, purple finches (or house finches.. not sure which), chickadees, and just about any bird out there.

I also have a couple of hummingbird feeders that we keep filled, mostly in the summer and fall when the hummingbirds are going through.

I'm enjoying going out into the garden and checking the progress.... my cucumbers are sprouting! I keep watching the tomato plants, but it is way too early for them to start budding... that's ok.. I'm just enjoying seeing them grow, and thinking about the yummy tomatoes we'll get this summer.

I love listening to the birds singing outside.... right now, though, it is being drowned out by the mower next door...however, I'm thankful for that... it means we've had enough rain for the grass to need mowing!

Isn't life wonderful?

That sounds beautiful, straight out of a Maxwell House commercial. I love those rare moments of solitude when noone needs mommy!

I like to see things grow. I love when I go to sleep and wake up the next day to a tomato on the vine or a pepper ready to pick. It feels good to see the results of your effort.

I really love riding in the car with my honey when it's just the 2 of us and we aren't in a hurry. It's like we're dating again. Music up, holding hands, kissing at the stop light. It doesn't matter where we're going, just to be in the car with him makes me happy.

My other favorite simple pleasure is eavesdropping on my kids on those rare occasions they aren't arguing. When they play together I love to thear the things they talk about and how thier little minds work. I love hearing them laugh and play.

Mine wasn't exactly relaxing but it is definitely a simple pleasure that my kids will enjoy this whole spring/summer. My dad took my kids and nieces and nephew to the top of this huge, very steep hill behind their house and helped them build a "fort" today. They LOVE it!

The pure joy on their little faces when they had it done and ready for me to see made the almost excruciating hike up the mountain well worth it! And, just think, no video games or cell phones were harmed in making this fort! lol

Ahhh, this morning my son let the dogs out to go to the bathroom so I did not wake up to my 11lb jumping on my head because he HAD TO GOOOOOOO! So, I even got to sleep in 30 min extra! Yep that is pretty simple - 30 min of sleep and a gentle wake up!

This is lovely... thanks for posting.

Recently we have gotten a couple of fish aquariums. I love taking a few minutes to sit and watch them, especially when my kids will slow enough to watch with me. I also love sitting with a cup of coffee next to our garden on a quiet morning.

Wishing you a nice day too :)

My most favorite part of the day is 5am....I'm the first one up, I let out my schnauzers out for potty break, then let them back in, sit down on the couch with my cup of coffee and let myself be at peace. While my family sleeps in. ;) Its so quiet, I can hear myself think, and I enjoy spending those little moments just to myself. I look around and see what I'm surrounded by and my heart gets so happy because in the chaos we don't always see what's around us.
I love that part of the day. It gives me the 'umph' for the whole day.
Thats truly my simple pleasure.

The birds have been coming back all week. I'm in Wisconsin and we are having an early spring :-)). My bulb plants are up there is no snow left and we are getting temps in the 60's and even 70's IN MARCH!!!!!! Normally we get 40's and maybe 50's in March so I am thrilled.
I am getting my back porch cleaned off and my yard raked this weekend so I can really enjoy my yard and the birds.

I am planning to start planting new bulbs and get seeds started by Monday. I'm loving this.

Steaming hot coffee on my little screened porch.
Reading a really good comic strip.
Sunsets through the trees.
Anytime at the ocean.
Laughing at the same joke one more time with my husband.
Hearing my children's voices on the phone.
Finding one phrase in a well-practice prayer that strikes me as "brand new" and full of personal meaning.

Thanks for the question. I'm smiling!
