The Incredible Shrinking Bustline :)

Ok. I've asked a few fashion and nursing related questions, so this is kind of a combo of the two :) It is not the most important question ever asked... but here it is anyway (ha!).

I recently weaned my daughter... she's nearly 17 months. Since June of 2004 I had been either pregnant, nursing, or pregnant and nursing until now.

Here is my "issue". I feel like my boobs are completely disappearing! Maybe I am not remembering what I looked like before, but they seem so squishy and small now! I am going from curvy to saggy and now my "little" tummy is seeming bigger and bigger to me because my boobs are getting so small!!

What can I expect? WIll they fill out again or are they going to just be like this from now on? How can I get my tummy to flatten out again? It's not chubby, just a little muffin-topish and seems thicker than before. Would pilate's help???

Ack. I guess I was in denial or just ignoring my tummy before since my boobs were huge for almost 6 years straight :)

Thoughts and suggestions - as always - are appreciated.

J.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies :) You all make me laugh and feel like I'm not being silly and that I'm in the norm here. I'd never exchange nursing my kids for my old boobs back so I guess that's just one more thing to chalk up to motherhood. Six year of "production" will take a toll on the old body I guess.

I'll start working on some ab stuff... I did have the separation of my ab's during my last pregnancy so that's probably still part of the problem.

I have new bra's on my list of essentials! I"m going to wait a few more weeks though just to make sure they are not going to shrink any more ;)

Thanks again!
J.

Finally, someone asked the question. I too am in the same boat as the rest. I breastfed my two daughters until 15 mos. and my boobs are gone. The youngest is 22 mos. now. I was a full C before the girls. I'm now struggling for a B. We want one more child, and I will certainly breastfeed him/her. After that, I guess I'll invest in a really expensive push up bra. It won't help when it's not on, but it will make me feel better in clothing I presume. Yeah, well, what are you going to do. . . :)

I have kind of the opposite problem. I started out as a C and I'm now a DD. BUT, it's not like I'm a Playboy model DD, I'm a saggy DD. Gross. I'd give anything to have my perky C's back. Such is the life of a mommy, huh? =)

I've been doing Adventure Boot Camp for a few months now, and I'm seeing some progress with the yicky muffin-toppy waistline, but jeez, it's really hard to get rid of!! Remember the days when bathing suit shopping was fun? Yeah, those days are long gone. I'll be happy just not to be wearing a muumuu to the pool.

Pretty much my strategy now is to dress my kids really cute so everyone looks at them and not at me! ;-)

My boobs got so small and saggy after weaning child number three, I had to eventually go out and buy myself a nice, new pair. I wish I could have magically transferred the lumpy bumps from my butt and tummy to my boobs...*Sigh*...

Yep, this will become the new you. But don't fret, in time, and with a little exercise/healthy eating habits, your body will morph back into something similar to its original shape, and you'll look fabulous. I think we all expect that as soon as we're done giving birth or nursing, we should start looking "normal" again. Think of how stretched out and weird our bodies got when we were pregnant (and with each subsequent pregnancy). It takes a while to bounce back from that! Anyway, invest in some good bras from Victoria Secret, that know how to boost up your newfound sagginess and make it look awesome. They're worth the extra $$. Also, do some exercises that are specific for new moms in the tummy area. If you still have any separation in your abdominal muscles (which I did with my first until he was about 2, and it's worse now with the second, who is 8 months old now), then pilates and traditional crunches can make your mummy tummy even worse. General exercise, and some special ab workouts you can find online or with a DVD specific to new moms, will help bring that shape back slowly but surely. I look at my 55 year old mom now and say, "Dang! Hope I look like that when I'm 55!" And it's taken her a while (and a lot of different body shapes) to get there. There is hope!

ok, this is embarrassing and i cannot believe i am writing this in a public forum! lol.

i had the same issue. i was a C cup before getting pregnant with my daughter. within my first 4 months of pregnancy, i swelled up to a DD. after having her and while i was nursing i sat at a D. i stayed a D while pregnant with my son and while nursing him. then i weaned him and OH MY GOD. they shriveled away to nothing! i was a floppy B all of a sudden and it depressed me to death. i am not sure if you watch family guy, but i was exactly what they talk about on there, "full blown fried egg nailed to a board"

as embarrassing as it is, i started to take a breast enhancement supplement online. I looked at a lot of different ones and finally settled on breast success. the label looks terrible, and the name is equally bad. but it really DOES help. i didnt have the big dramatic results like they have in testimonials like, "i went up 2 cup sizes in 4 months!" etc. but i did got up a cup size and it at least helped my boobs poof back up and not look so deflated. I am back to the C i was before having kids, and pretty comparable to how they looked before i ever got pregnant (minus the stretch marks of course!)

oh, and i bought mine on ebay, its a lot cheaper! lol. also, one month doesnt show much difference, its the second and third month that you start to see the difference, so avoid the frustration and get a pack of 2 or 3 bottles!

Sorry to tell you that for me and my sister at least, the boobies don't come back. My daughter has been weaned for a year and a half, and I'm still in a A- cup! It sucks, but just like my c-section scar, I consider it a small price to pay for giving life and the best start to my baby's life! I told my husband that after I have finished b/fing the next one (our last), I am sooooooo getting a boob job! I will have deserved it by then! :)

Welcome to my world honey! Unfortunately, that's the price we pay to be a mommy. I'm in the same boat - pregnant or nursing for 5 years straight. I had big, full boobs for a good 6 months after stopping nursing my 2nd but now they're going south quick. As for the tummy, I have found that regular sit-ups help as well as just keeping my weight down in general which is harder now that I'm not nursing anymore. Sorry not good news.

You're probably remembering everything just find - my boobs totally deflated. Not cool. Best thing I ever did? Got better bras and told my husband I wanted breast implants. No joke.

It'll be a while before that happens, we're not done having kids (no really... I'm pregnant) and then after that the money will have to be organized before we make any big decisions like that.

But hey - its something I'd say about 90% of women go through. Hang in there and don't worry!

Unfortunatly, nothing positive can add to all other responders.
But I got breast implants after my first baby-just couldn't stand the ugly change. Push up bras were a little saver in the begining, but I just couldn't undress in front of my husband(he didn't think they looked horrible and seemed nothing changed for him)/
I didn't go big-just back to my C,so nobody noticed any difference, even my g-friends.Feel SOOOO much better!

Hi J.:
I was a bra fitter for J.C.Penny for 3.5 yrs. I recommend you go to Penney's and get fitted for a good bra that fits. I would also recommend a push up bra. If you have never worn one it takes a bit of time to get used to but they can add a half cup to a cup size to your appearance. Lily of France makes some nice ones. As far as the tummy situation goes for now pick up a few pair of shapers (girdles). They will pull in about a half size and make your over all appearance look more smooth and tight. Before you opt for the body suit ( looks like a swimsuit) or the high waisted style really look it over, will you be able to go potty with ease? The waist nippers (fit from bust to hipline usually have a row of hooks and eyes to close) work quite well but often the boning will show through your clothes.
I am the Mom of 4 and grandma of 3. I am short waisted and always have a tummy issue. I picked up an Ab Slide several years ago, I believe Walgreens still carry them, but maybe only during the holidays. I swear these work wonders to tighten Abs. However the instructions will tell you to be moderate in use at first cautioning you to use for no more than 3 minutes. HA--HA I did that the first time I used it and my Abs got so sore I couldn't breath comfortably for a few days. Start out with 45-60 seconds for the first couple of days. You will feel the burn and it does work quickly, then the second week add 30-45 seconds to your routine, work up to 5 minutes a day and in about a month you will see an improvement in your Abs.
I hope this helps.

i know how you feel, only my boobs are always and have always been big, but they did make me go "hey whats with my stomach" when i weaned! LOL

pilates might help, cardio, whatever you feel comfortable doing. your body wont ever be the same as before kids, but you sure can take good care of yourself and try to do the best you can :)

good luck!

Just for the moms reading this that are now afraid of what might happen to their boobs if they nurse, I never had more than an A cup, but they are as good or better than ever after nursing three babies for a total nursing time of about five years! It is true if you have smaller boobs, your tummy looks bigger. My answer to that is pilates!! They do wonders.

Rocks in socks. That's what I've got left after years of being prego and also nursing. Literally Rocks in socks is all that is left. Victoria Secret does have some nice bras and they help some, but without a bra on, it's a sad situation! Good luck to you!

I can't say enough good things about Pilates!!! I got my bikini abs back after having a baby at age 41! Start easy and work up to two or 3 times a week for 30-45 minutes. You'll look better and feel better all over.

J.,

Sorry to say, that's just how it is. After my third baby, I had to start bra shopping in the girls section - something I hadn't had to do since my sophomore year of high school. After baby number four, I kept my bust, but it was because I couldn't take off the baby weight due to thyroid and metabolic issues. If I could choose between being boobless and being fat, I would definately go boobless.
