The Goddard School Experiences

I'm thinking of bringing my 4 year old son (turning 5 in November) to The Goddard School located in Aurora near Waterford and Montgomery for two full days each week in their preschool or pre-k program. Do any mom's out there have any experiences with the facility or input? He'd continue to go to the home daycare we've used since he was 14 months three days a week with his 2 year old brother.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
I am a speech patholgist and used to worked with children in North Chicago areas in the daycare settings. Goddard Schools was one of the schools we had a contract with to go in and do free screening for speech and language development. We then offered full evaluations through their insurance with services provided during their day at Goddard so parents didn't have to travel to a clinic in the evening. My friend just moved here also and enrolled her 17 month old little girl at a Goddard School per my recommendation. All of their teachers are certified and very good with the kids. At least at all the Goddards I worked with. I don't know if the Goddards in this area offer those services, but they are definitely pro-active and advocates for the children and their development. I wish you the best with your search!
Sincerely.
A.

My daughter takes my 2 yr old grandson there and has for 1 1/2 yrs. They are always nice and polite but are firm in their protectiveness of the children. I have to show ID every time I come to pick him up and remember the password we all agreed on, even tho he obviously knows who I am. They really care about the children and have wonderful activities for them. The food is good, the "teachers" are great and the director is one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Have you been there? There is actually an open house/icecream social there today 4:30pm-6:00pm. We have been considering their all day kindergarden program. It is pretty expensive but it seems like a nice place.

My mom is the one who responded to you as the grandmother of the 2 year old. I agree with everything she said and more! My son loves it there - he adores the director, his teachers and "classmates". He is truly excited in the morning when we arrive there and has not once been in a bad mood when I picked him up. The educational experience there is top - notch. I am ever amazed at the creative ways they teach my son about myriad things, as well as the spanish and sign language that he's learned. The teachers clearly care for and love every one of the children they are responsible for, and the teacher to child ratio is great. The food there is great - healthy, and my son eats things there he won't even touch at home (they must do something pretty special with their veggies!). They provide a detailed "report card" every day that informs you of when they ate, what they ate, how much of it they ate, when they napped, when sunscreen was applied, every last diaper change or trip to the bathroom, the books they read that day, the words they learned that day, pretty much all the activities that took place over the course of the day as well as how your child responded to each of these activities. I could not give the Goddard School in Aurora a higher recommendation...I can't imagine trusting the care of my son to anyone else at this point (except my mom, of course).
