With or son we used the potty chair that went on the toilet. It worked great.

Both my son and daughter were trained at that age. We had trained using different potties (two kid ones in 2 different bathrooms, and regular potties so it was an easy transition.

For my son, he wanted to be like daddy and prefered to stand on a stool at the big potty after only one comment question about it from dad. For my dd, I told her to tell me when she were ready to get rid of the small potties entirely and she too chose the big potty. Just be certain you ahve stools for them to use to make it comfy and easy.

I am with Karen. My little boy showed little interest in the little potty for so long. Then I got a potty seat with his favorite characters and a stepstool and he immediately started using it. Now he's standing, too.

I got potty seats and stepstools for upstairs and downstairs, too, just to encourage him to always use it. He'll even pull the stepstool over to wash his hands.

We used the potty seat over the big toilet as well. So much easier. Our son used it for a couple of months, and then we just got rid of it entirely b/c he was able to use a public toilet with no problems.

Try getting a potty seat to go over the big potty. Once you make the switch, you will wish you had done it sooner. It is so much easier since you do not have to clean the bowl in the little potty every time! We also put a step stool in front of the big potty so the kids can get on the potty alone.

We never used a potty seat, they went right to the big potty with a potty seat on that. The one we had sat right on top and had a step in front of it plus handles to hang on to. Found this one by trial and error, my daughter did not like having her feet dangling and could not get, how do I say it delicatly, enough push power with her feet dangling. I then went on to use this seat with my other 2.
