I an still breastfeeding my 19 month old, about 4 times a day. Last month I unexpectedly got my period for the first time. I had no cramping whatsoever and I bled lightly for 7 days. I started the mini pill that following Sunday after my period ended. my husband and I have had unprotected sex (besides the pill i'm on) all month. I an aware that periods can be very irregular while still lactating but a few days before I was supposed to get my period, I started getting PMS symptoms. My nipples were tender (but not horribly sore ), cramping, bloating, and cravings for anything chocolate. I thought for sure this was a sign I was getting my period on time. But now I an 8 days late and still experiencing all of these PMS symptoms. I have been having all the PMS symptoms for 12 days now. I am so comnfused. I thought I was pregnant so I took a test yesterday but it was negative. I have had no nausea but I didn't have any with my first child either. Has anyone experianced anything like this?? I wouldnt mind being pregnant again, I just want to know! Or hurry up and get my period. Ughh Thanks in advance every one.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I still have not gotten my period and I still have PMS symptoms and started getting dizzy spells and head aches yesterday. I didn't know the mini pill was all hormone/progesterone the entire 4 weeks and no placebos, that seems to make sense as to why I am not getting a period. I did take it for 9 months after my son was born (then my husband deployed so I stopped taking it) and it did not effect me this way, although I had not gotten my first period yet. I am going to try and wait it out and hope these symptoms go away: hopefully soon because I am going on vacation in a week and a half! If not, I am going to make an appt. with OB to look into other birth control options because this constant PMS is not working for me! Thanks again everyone!

My first few periods were VERY irregular. Very. As in, 2-4 week discrepancies.

I would take a test every few days if you think you are pregnant, but don't stress over it too much. :)

What Marie C said. Irregular periods and fluctuating hormones are pretty par for the course after having a baby, esp. if you are still b/f-ing. I didn't get 'regulated' until about 6 months into using an oral contraceptive, and even then, there was still some nasty PMS and breakthrough bleeding.

Well, you could still very well be pregnant. If ou didn't start birth control right after the baby was born, you could get pregnant at any time.....even while breast feeding. Contrary to popular belief, the body can and will still release eggs and be able to conceive while nursing. My mom got pregnant with my brother while still breast feeding me and I was only five months old. I had twin daughters and breastfed both of them for eight months but my OB/GYN told me the day after I had them that I had to start birth control right away or run the risk of pregnancy again at any time. So it is very possible. I also know that nursing does kinda mess up our cycles a lot so it cold be that as well. Have a blood test to be sure you aren't pregnant. If that comes back negative, then you can take that out of the equation. Then I would seriously get on some form of birth control right away unless you us do welcome another baby right now. It can and will happen. I nursed all four of my daughters and they are 19 (twins), 17, 16, and 14. Yup....your math is right!

Many people don't get a period when on the mini pill. That could be why you are testing negative and not getting your period. I never got my period until I stopped taking the mini pill. It's the same amount of hormone all four weeks of the packet. It never gives your body a chance to have a period.
