Goodmorning to all,

I was wondering if maybe someone can give me insight. I currently completed an alternative certification program here in Texas for a possible certification in bilingual education. Unfortunately i have not been very successful in passing the content exams for it. I barely studied the first time and missed by 8 points. The second time I took it, studied for a whole month and missed it by 22 points. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I really need help. I was wondering if anyone could share information on how they studied for the exam and what materials they used to pass it. I will be taking another exam in exactly a month and so I am planning to get a head start on studying! :(

What can I do next?

Answer the questions as though it is a perfect world. Do not apply your own experiences at all. Assume nothing with the questions - all of the information needed are in the questions. Take any and all practice tests you can find on-line. I assume you took the one on the texes-ets.org website. Order a study guide - I got mine off amazon.com. Take your time when taking the test. Make sure you are dressed comfortably. Eat well before the test.

You can do it! Don't let it get to your head you haven't passed it yet - you will pass it. Good luck!

Ummm...they might be sticklers if Texas isn't spelled correctly. :)
{ROFLMAO....i checked the link below, and they REALLY spell it TeXes exam}

But here's my best exam taking advice: Practice taking the exam.

I mean two things by that - take as many of the practice exams as you can as many questions repeat over years. Second, and this is the most important, plant your butt in the chair for 3 or 5 hours while you take the practice exams.

Nothing will screw up all that good studying like not being able to sit still and concentrate for 3 hours, just like test conditions.

Is it the same as the TOPT exam? "Texas Oral Proficiencey Test" where I had to answer lots of questions/situations asked to me in Spanish and I had to respond in Spanish? I took the TOPT years ago and used a friend's notes from a "prep class" that she took (paid $100 or so for the class). The exam had the same format year after year, so I studied/practiced saying my responses in the time allotted (60 seconds to think, 30 seconds to repond; each question had a specific time allotted for response) and used her notes.

I am not sure what the TEXES is, as I took all those educator tests back in 2002 and I'm sure they've changed names a few times. I was a bilingual elementary teacher (2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades) for a few years before staying at home with my son. I learned Spanish as a second language (failing during middle school, something clicked in High School, considered myself fairly fluent once I started teaching, but struggled with fluency while in college). Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
