Tension Headaches?

Two months ago I wound up with a tension headache, stemming from the muscle that connects to the back of your skull. It was only on the right side and with some massage and muscle relaxers it went away. Now from time to time I get them when I lay down for bed, and after I get one, even when it goes away, I can't go back to sleep right away. Any other moms gone through this?
Edit--It usually starts on the right side and spreads through my head. I'm getting another one right now. This is the second one today. I'm going to take a Tylenol Sinus since one of you wonderful ladies mentioned a sinus problem contributing. Also, heat doesn't seem to be helping.

What can I do next?

I get bad headaches. I used to wake up with headache in the back of my head that radiated from my neck. I bought a water pillow on line and have not had one since. I have been using the pillow about 2 months. You can find the pillow on amazon.com. It is great!

I've found chiropractic care very helpful, myself. Also, one of my chiropractors taught me a stretch for the back of the neck where you stand straight up, and pull your chin straight back, like someone attached a thread to your chin and is standing behind you pulling it. As long as I remember to do that stretch every day, I don't get headaches, and if I do I can usually stretch them out. I haven't had to return to the chiropractor for my headaches since I learned the stretch.

Sounds more like a migraine to me UGH! I use to get them all the time in fact when I started keeping track I had a headache everyday for 3 years. Headaches should be called hurt all over aches :) they make you feel terrible. Mine lasted from the time I was in my 20's until I was about 48 years old after I discovered Arbonne and it's Balancing cream. If you continue to have them you should get checked out by your Dr. If they can't get you any relief contact me and I will tell you more about mine and the cream I use that stopped them. Feel better soon.

Hmm...I'm going to have to try the Excedrin Tension that the others have recommended.

When I get tension headaches, it's usually in tandem with a sinus headache. For some folks (me included), the body is trying to balance a headache on the other side, and goes overboard. Voila! Tension headache. Solving the sinus headache usually helps the tension one.

Any chance you've got another issue going on, that your body is trying to balance out?

I get headaches constantly and the one thing that helps me is Excedrin. Try the Excedrin Tension Headache. Also, how is your pillow? I have 3 different pillows that I use depending on how I am feeling. I always have stiffness in my neck and headaches that originate at the base of my skull and if I switch up my pillow, it helps. You may want to consider a chiropractor too.

i don't get "regular" headaches. if one is coming on i know that it's a tension headache. i have been brought to vomiting and tears by them...miserable. mine always go away if i can just lay down in a dark room and sleep it off though. they also leave me exhausted so sleep is never a problem. maybe we all just react differently to them? have you see your dr?

My headaches are nearly always either tension or migraine. Go get yourself some Excedrin Tension Headache pills. They work wonders in about 15 minutes.

I have had these type of headaches every now and then. In my culture, there is some reasons but, it's difficult to explain. Anyway, what we do, you use some massage oil, put some around back of neck along the bones to your shoulder... then, you can use a "quarter" or "cermaic spoon" and gently scratch from top (hairline from top of your neck to the shoulders") you may need help from others. Repeat doing it like 5-7 times... remember has to be from top to bottom, no backwards.. then, you may see some red spots just like "little rash" but not pumpy at all.. they will disappear around 2 days without any mark. But, your headache and back will be immediatly loosen up... If there is no "red spot" coming out, meaning the headache is not from the tension.. You don't need to do it hard to get the red spot. It will just come out.

Also, sometimes, i will do it along the spine too.. to relax my muscule pain..

See if it works on you.
