I have a ten week old angel, and he is breastfeeding. At about 4 weeks I introduced a bottle with breast milk so my wife could help with feeding, and to prepare to return to work in a while. He took the bottle fine, and was eating well from it, both with my wife, and with me.
A couple of weeks ago, he became fussy with the bottle, and has not been able to eat from it since. When I give him the bottle, he fusses, squirms, and most of the milk goes down his chin. Sometimes he cries. My wife has tried giving him the bottle, but she is less patient, and he cries immediately.
I don't want to stop trying, but I also don't want to create a negative association with the bottle. I'm going back to work in a couple months, and he will have to take the bottle...so I really need help!
This may seem obvious...but in case you haven't thought of it (given that you probably are sleep deprived!), I figured I'd throw it out there anyway. What size nipple are you using on the bottle? He might be ready for the next size up. If the hole in the nipple is too small, the milk flow will be too slow....and the baby will get fussy and frustrated because he's not getting milk fast enough.

Another bottle to try is the Breast Flow. My son wouldn't take any other bottle. It has two nipples and looks kinda wierd but it worked. Also make sure the temp. of the milk is not too hot or too cold. Good luck!

I don't know what kind of bottles you use, but the Adiri bottle is shaped like a breast and most babies take to it really well. Also, if you don't swaddle while nursing or bottle feeding, it really helps calm them when they are fussy or gassy. Swaddle your baby before giving the bottle. Also, keeping him in an upright position and very frequent burping will help as well.

Yep I had a lot of trouble w/this too! At the time (3yr. now)I thought it was refusal too, however once I changed bottles (I took way too long to figure that out.) The colic when away and things were much better. We used playtex wide ventaire - I SWEAR by this bottle!

My little man was always a "straight from the tap" kind of guy and bottles were always a battle. Everytime he went on strike I'd freak out but he'd always eventually come back around and you learn their little "things". I.E. my son would only take a bottle from me when at home. Yes, me, the breastfeeding woman not the husband or grandma or auntie or neighbor. And, he liked it warmer then I'd expect but I run hot so it made sense. I spent a ton of money on different bottles and new nipples but it was always just persistance that won in the end. So keep at it and try not to get stressed or frustrated (if you are worried about him taking a bottle that stress is coming through and he's stressed that you are stressed...observant little things!).
On a last note when you are at work and he is at daycare or whatever, the enviroment is so different that what doesn't work at home may work well at daycare and visa versa. Just a reminder that it may not be a big deal in the end.
