Telling Twins Apart

Our twins were born at 25 weeks and were in the NICU. 1 week after they were born the nurses turned them over onto their tummies and BAM, there was a red birthmark the size of a pencil eraser on Carli's back between her shoulder blades....woooohoooo....we were thrilled to have something to easily tell them apart by. Don't even ask how many times we pulled their shirt collars back for a year or two to make sure we had 'the right one' ;) Daddy put them in the wrong crib a time or two which was fun - Carli would look around, completely facinated by the different things she saw, while Maezi would just SCREAM because, true to her 1st born self, she hates change :) They'll be 6 in April and are still the same.

Does he have identical twins? Otherwise, it's not hard to tell them apart. My identical twins differ only by a small birthmark on the forehead of one, so we have to look very close. Guess you could remind him it could be worse - I have two sets of twins! Seriously if you want to do something nice for him, get everyone in the office to chip in to buy them a night nanny for a night; the cost is about $100 to $125 per night and it gives mom & dad a chance to get some sleep. Think about it; two babies waking every hour or so screaming for milk. Kind of tough at first. But it does get better.

The funniest story I have heard is a mother of boy/girl twins, going for a walk is repeatedly stopped and asked, "Oh how cute, twins! Are they identical?"

A friend of mine used different nail polish on the big toe of each baby.

My cousin had triplets, a friend had twins, & another friend had 2 separate pairs of twins (who are 2 years apart). They all used the nail polish on the toes until they could tell them apart 100%. Also, they color-coded everything of theirs.
