Telemarketer Troubles!!

There is a telemarketing company that calls our home over and over and over again. They are advertizing "Modern Machine Shop". I answer and tell them we don't want anything, please stop calling, please take us off of your list. . . ect. Do they listen? NO! They have called 4 times, just today!! What can I do? Can I say, I have asked you not to call back, this is harassment. Then notify the police? This is rediculous!! It's just plain rude. I understand that people need jobs. And there must be somebody buying from these guys, or they wouldn't have the job. But I don't want any, and if I ask them to stop calling, they should respect that, right?

What can I do next?

You have to tell them to put you on their do not call list, which you have done. then you can report them, it's against the law for them to continue to call.

Tell them you reported them to the The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) the next time they call. Info for the law and how to file a complaint:

Just tell them "hang on" and walk away from the phone, do it every time they call. Someone will eventually pull you off of the list. It happens here all the time too, I hate it but that's one of the great things about caller ID. You can also subscribe to "call blocking" and block the number if they have revealed it. You can also blow a shrill whistle into the phone,,, kind of drastic but I've known people to do it from time to time. Make sure you are on the national do not call list. I'm being plagues by political calls now, I dont know how they manage to get the number when you put it on the do not call list, but they do. We all deal with it, dont get too stressed but use the opportunity to speak your mind each time they call you. Ask the telemarketer for a call back number because you want to get back to them later when you arent busy...

Contact your phone company to see if you can block their number. We have Comcast, and we can block ANY number from calling us (for free). Google your phone providers name and "blocking calls." With Comcast, we are able to set up the blocked numbers right from our own phones. Has saved me TONS of distress, especially from overseas telemarketers who have an uncanny knack for calling during nap time :)

Are you on the Do Not Call Registry? The police can't do anything for you, but the Federal Trade Commission can if your number has been on the Do Not Call Registry for 31 days. If you are receiving recorded phone calls, you can file a complaint regardless of whether your number is registered or not.

You can threaten to file a harassment complaint the next time they call, but it may not stop the calls. If you do, I wouldn't yell or anything, just ask what company they are calling from and let them know you have repeatedly asked for the calls to stop and to be removed from the calling list and you will file a harassment complaint with the FTC if they do not stop calling. They'll probably just hang up on you. Good luck!

If you can get their number, have the phone company block them. Also, report them. If you are not on the official "Do not call" list, get on it. There are fines if they call you and you are on it, but after requesting to be taken off the list, they are also supposed to respect that.

I had one telemarketer call me and start cussing me out when I asked to be taken off the list....unlisted number of course!

Get on the do-not-call list and then it will be illegal for him to call you. You can report him to your state Attorney General.

And of course you can tell them you will call on them-only say you are calling the AG and not the police. The AG is the one who deals with stuff like this. You should definitely call about them.

they can get in trouble for that, next time they call ask them to speak to their supervisor, and let the supervisor know if they don't stop calling you'll take it to the next level of the law at their expense...get the supervisor's name or employee id number before you say that

You have had great advice, also, ask if you can talk with their manager the next time they call, and tell him that you have reported countless of times to take you off their list and that you have contacted the bbb.

Do they know your name? If so, maybe answer and say "I'm sorry. K. doesn't live here. You must have a wrong number."

Here's what you can do...
1. Just don't answer the phone.
2. Be extremely rude to them.
3. Most of them have this long speach that they read to you. Just set the phone down and let them talk away.
4. Give the phone to your preschooler. I had a telemarketer talk to my daugther for over 10 minutes one time.
5. This is what I highly recommend... add your name to the "do not call' list. Simply call 1-888-382-1222. Once you're registered you have legal rights.

And to answer your question, yes they should respect that your not interested in their product. However, they are not doing anything illegal or something that would be considered harassment.

Good luck.

Note: This is what I find annoying, when I was home sick on bed rest, Habitat for Humanity called me 6 times in 2 days. They are not exempt from the do not call list. They'll never see another penny from me.

Utilize your caller ID if you have it and just don't answer, that's what we do! I have also had to ask for a manager and tell them you have asked to be taken off their list but they still keep calling. You can also call your phone company and tell them and they will give you a code/number to punch in and that will block them from calling...we have our phone thru Comcast and I have recently had to do this when something like a fax machine kept calling us...talk about annoying!

My hubby is rude when he answers...he speaks very loud and gibberish, he has also told them to "hold on one minute" then just put the phone down and walked away...he has also handed the phone over to our 4 yr old and told him it was santa's helper and he needs to know his X-mas list :)
I am not suggesting you do any of these because I can't stand it when he does it, I think it's incredibly rude but there are steps you can take to make them stop calling you....i would start with asking to talk to the manager and tell them you have asked to be removed from their call list SEVERAL times but you are still getting calls! That should work!

is it a recording or an actual person? Try selling them something back! That might do it?

Like all the others told you... get on the do not call list. The only thing is charities and political calls can still go through. If they call again tell them that you are on the do not call list and to stop calling. Or you could also tell them that you are not interested and when they start talking again hang up! They will get the picture. Good Luck
