My son is 2 and I think he's getting his two year molars in. He is always chewing on his hands or his shirt. Yesterday, he went through 4 shirts because he will chew on the collar until it is wet and then he is uncomfortable and wants to change. I though maybe I could give him a toothbrush to chew on because then he could really get back there, but quickly discarded the idea because he is very active and I don't want him to fall and choke himself. Do any moms out there have a suggestion on what he could chew on? Besides the chewing, they don't seem to be hurting him...he's his normal charming self. Thanks!

Sine he likes the feel of his shirt, try giving him a wash cloth to chew on. This is what I always used with my daughter when she was teething. When she was a baby I would wet one end of the wash cloth, twist it, and then freeze it. The cold really helps the gums and since I only wet the one end, her hands wouldn't get cold like most teethers you freeze. Hope this help!

there are those crackers in the baby food aisles that address teething. Zwiebak, or something like that. Give it a shot
I just busted out the old baby teethers for my daughter when she was going through this and she loved it. She thought it was fun to have the baby toys out again. She was attracted to one that she could get to the back of her mouth, however, it was still big enough and soft enough so if she fell it would be okay. She also liked chewing on a small blanket or old burp rag. I usually switched everyday what I gave her to chew on because I didn't want her to get attached to one thing and used to chewing on stuff. She only has one more molar to come in and she seems fine with giving up the items.
I would give my daughter a cold washcloth to chew on. They also sell this thing at babies r us that you can put cold fruit pieces (like apples) in that they can chew on.
Yes, those little feeder mesh things with a circle handle for him to hold on to work great. I think they are by lil munchkin. Also try wal-mart for them. My daughter actually brings it to me when she wants another ice cube - (make sure you wet it though so it doesn't stick to his tongue) Put a bib on too to catch the water and drool.

My little one is drooling like crazy, too. He's 2 next month. I notice he chews on his pointer finger and sticks it way in the back...so of course, the drool runs down his hand and arm and onto everything else. I think he uses his finger because it is long and narrow...and like you, I have hesitated to give him anything because I don't want him running with it. My son isn't in any pain either...which Im grateful for!

You could try a clean wet washcloth for him to chew on, or better yet, put a couple of them in the freeze in zip loc baggies, so when one thaws out you can switch it for a fresh one. Not much different than chewing on his shirt. Or if he is really drooling alot, try a dry washcloth, it will end up wet and it will absorb all his drool.
A wet cold washcloth works well.
I really like the frozen washcloth idea, but only wet half of it and keep the other half dry to catch the wet stuff. Wish I would have thought about that when my kids were that age. Good luck!
