Teething? Small Amount of Bleeding in Mouth!

Hi Moms! My son is 7 months old and so far has no teeth. I think he is teething because he chews everything and is drooling a lot. His gums feel hard and sometimes he is cranky just out of the blue. He also puts his fingers in his mouth and seems to pull down on his lower gums. Today I gave him a gerber puff (broken in half...he gums them) and he spit it out and I noticed it was kind of pink. So I gave him another one and he did the same thing, with what looks like a small amount of blood on it. Yesterday and this morning he seemed resistent to eat baby food and only wants his bottle. Is this normal with teething? Is the blood from the tooth breaking through? Please help! I am a first time mom and new to this whole thing! :-)

What can I do next?

When Maddie is teething, i swear every time i think she is dying. She won't eat, i guess because it hurts her little gums, and she cant keep her paci in either. She gets horrible diarrhea, (which could have something to do with the not eating thing aswell) and runs a low fever of about 99.8 or so, drools everywhere, and sticks everything in her mouth, and yes sometimes there is blood. Oh and the constant night wakings.....ugh!

If he dosn't have any teeth yet i bet he is getting quite a few at once, i would get some orajel and Tylenol, and some shaved ice.

With everything you said it definatly sounds like teething. And yes there can be a little bit of blood from the gums breaking. The tooth has to seperate the gums and so there will be a lot of discomfort. Give your baby some tylenol and rub orgel on his gums specialy at night. Most kids will not eat for a few days while they feel the pain and pressure. It is very normal and if your boy is like mine he won't starve himself. Offer him a cold, wet rag to suck on--keep getting it wet and you can even have 2 one for him now and one to trade with in the frig. They love it cold. I hate using the teething ring with water becasue most of those are made in China with China water and what if they pop---yuck!

He probably has a small hematoma (sp?). My baby had one when her top tooth was coming through. It looked all blue and red, very bad, but the pedi. said it was normal and that same day it was gone. It freaked me out, but it's like a small blood blister in their mouth. Take a look, but if you don't see anything, it may have already burst and gone away. If it happens again, I would call your pedi. just in case.

It could be normal but I never noticed it with my two children. Have you looked into his mouth to see if there are any sores, etc. that could be the source? Best bet is to call your peditrican and inquire. They should be used to new moms calling in and don't let them think you are overreacting either. New mom syndrome is perfectly normal :0)

It does sound like he is teething though so you may want to look or feel around for a tooth or two :0) Just be careful, those wonderful babies can certainly bite pretty good!

God bless!

My oldest daughter bled a little nearly every time she had a tooth poke through. Can you see if maybe there are any little white lines that may be teeth? They'd most likely be the lower center teeth.

Yes this does sound like teeth. My son did the same thing except he got 2 teeth at a time and he did the same thing your son is doing I gave him Tylenol and Teething tablets (you can get in almost any store) that seemed to work better than the oragel for us because that only worked for about 5 min or so (I used it on myself first). I talked to my pediatrician about the teething tablets and she said at the time she had never used them but alot of her mothers used them and thought they were the miracle cure. I am now using them on my daughter. Good luck
