Teething Remedies? - Chicago,IL

The past two nights my 13 month old son has been up crying, refusing to sleep. The first night it was when we first put him down -- he was up for almost 3 hours. The second night he woke up at 1:30am and was up until 5am -- when I laid down with him in the extra bed in his room and he finally fell asleep. Since he has no fever, no irritability (other than when he can't fall asleep) and no other signs of being sick, I think it is his molars coming in. Wondering what people's thoughts were on using oragel or motrin. Or does anyone have any natural remedies for teething that really work?
Thanks

Have you tried teething tablets? You can find them at Jewel (that is the only place I have found them in the baby section.) You put a couple in there mouth and let it disolve you can give them it up to six times a day I believe. They work for my 8 month old!

Hi,
My 16 month old had this problem back in February. I use Melaleuca Oil [pure and rare grade of tea tree oil] on a wet Qtip and did a quick swab accross her gums. Instant and long lasting relief. Melaleuca sent me a free trial size bottle with my shopped last month. It has not been opened and it's yours if you want it. I live in Plainfield. Just let me know of a public place you'd like to meet.

Good luck,
M.

Hi JG,

too funny, we call all our kids 'monkeys' :)

anyway, when my guy gets teeth in, its like 4 at a time, seriously. he is a nightmare. we have found tylenol to be our only saving grace. Motrin is too harsh on his stomach (though other moms swear by its effectiveness). Orajel does a great job of numbing every area of his mouth but the tooth i'm aiming for. LOL! (seriously, its an art form using that stuff). so for us, its a waste of money. When he is actively teething, i give it to him every 6-8 hours, until i see that little pearl bust through the gum, then i just give it to him when he's chewing his hands, or waking during teething.

right now my guy is getting his 2 yr molars (at 16 mo.) so we're back in the tylenol phase...

good luck...

I would have your little one checked by the pediatrician as he may have an ear infection. Both of my kids show no signs at all when they have ear infections outside of waking at night (no fever, pulling ears, etc). If it is just teething, we love teething tablets and motrin. Motrin stays in their systems longer than tylenol, so I would use that at night.
