Our baby had a 9 months check up 4 days ago. She got ONE vaccination. For the next 3 days she 's had a fever upto 101.2. I called the doctor and was told they can have a fever for a week after vaccination(WHAT???) so just to give her tylenol. Fever finally was gone yesterday morning but now she has a rash all over her torso and neck. Called the doctor again , they want to see her tomorrow morning. She 's been cutting top 3 teeth for the last week also and they are almost out. She does not act like herself, very whiny. My boys are 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 and they did not have any of this. They were formulafed and had regular baby food, this one is breastfed and gets organic food, yet we are at the doctors every(other) month.Makes no sence. Wanted to see if anybody had similar experience.
PS please no judging on the vaccines.......we space /delay them and only get them when kids are 100% healthy.

What can I do next?

It could just be she came down with a virus at the same time she got the vaccine. Lots of viruses cause a fever then after fever breaks a rash starts.

What does the rash look like? Bumpy, splotchy, lacey, flat,?

you will never hear me judging someone who vaccinates!!!!! all of my boys are vaccinated, for their health and for the health of other kids around them. i am not a doc or nurse, but sounds like a reaction the the vaccine...or an ingredient in it. have you changed anything at all recently?? i know you already know, but the rash could also be from a new lotion, body wash, detergent, fabric softener, a new perfume/cologne of you or hubby...or a food allergy, tried any new foods lately? or could have someone else gave her a new food? i'm so sorry your little girl is sick. i havent heard about having a fever for a week, but you never know. good for you for doing such a good job keeping her healthy!!!

When babies have fever for a few days then they get a reaction (don't remember the name) that is a rash in torso, neck and could also be the back. It will disappear in 2 - 3 days. It's also common to have fever after a vaccine or just be cranky... To be on the safe side, go and see the doc tomorrow, but I think it's just a reaction... No worries and let us know tomorrow what the doc said.

The 1st thing I thought of was roseola.

It's possible she might have picked up something at the doctors office or she was newly infected with a virus she could have picked up from anywhere but not exhibiting symptoms yet when you took her to the apt. There are a couple vaccines that mild fever is a side effect as the body makes the antibodies that combat the disease.
As Rachel K. asked, what does the rash look like? That can help narrow down what might have caused it.

It sounds like she could have roseola. What you described is typical: fever for a few days which clears up,followed by a rash. If that is what it is, it is harmless.

May be coincidental. May not be. Might be a good idea to delay the remaining doses of this particular vaccine until she's a little older and stronger, just in case.

You can also read the insert for this particular vaccine to see if the symptoms you are describing have been associated with this vaccine in the past.

Hope she feels better soon.

Regarding her being sick more often than your older boys, there are a lot of possibilities. One possibility is just that she's being exposed to more germs because she has big brothers. She also might have an undiagnosed allergy. It's really hard to tell at this age.

Good luck.

Yes, I have heard of fever and rash following a vaccine...especially the MMR vaccine.
