My son is 17 months and he is teething really bad. He cuts his teeth one by one so the pain gets longer.... I can see his eye teeth are coming out and 2 molars... all at the same time... Because of this, he is having runny nose and OF COURSE he is in a very bad mood. I was giving him one dose of tylenol during the day and at night ibuprofen... few minutes after the dose he is another kid!!! happy, smiling etc... How much is enough?? Is it OK to give him medicine?? I know it says no more than 4 or 5 times a day... But I feel like he needs to manage the pain differently.
BTW: teething gels, frozen towels don't work....
Thanks again... N.

What can I do next?

Try a teething necklace. It's made of Baltic Amber which has a natural pain reliever. My son teethes 2-4 teeth at a time (JOY) so his pain is intense. When the necklace isn't enough, I give him teething tablets. Works like a charm.
BUT I do know that it is fine to give my son some Tylenol or ibuprofen while he is fine. In fact he's on some right now since we are at my school working. I didn't want to take chance on him being grumpy.
Give your son the amount you think he needs in a day. It will make your lives better with less of the grumpy baby :D

**I actually have a braclet that I put on my sons ankle so that I don't have to worry at all about him playing with it or strangulation :D

Try hylands teething tablets, all natural and they were a life saver they have them at any walmart, CVS, walgreens etc. I seriously had NO issues with teething because of these things! Other than the normal diarrhea she was an angel!

Also with the meds, don't give more tylenol than it states, you can do more ibuprofen with no issues (per my ped) just think when they give you the RX ibuprofen it's like 2-3 times the otc dose and it's perfectly fine. I'm not saying up the dose but going one or two doses over the recommended daily shouldnt hurt.

My LO is about the same age and is having the same problem. I give her ibuprofen only when she really needs it.. like at night especially. What also helps is buying something to make your own popsicles abd freeze some yogurt in them.

You can alternate between ibuprofen and tylenol. Tylenol is every 4 hrs (I THINK, check the bottle), Ibuprofen is every 6.

For me, I've always found that we just have to tough it out. My kids didn't like the frozen chewie toys or anything like that either. :(

Those medications are very toxic especially to the ear and the liver. Tylenol is the worst thing to give anyone because it cuts the glutathione levels in your liver and that is your body's biggest natural antioxidant. Try Hyland's brans or some other natural teething tablet, They do work and do not change your child's brain waves.

My son is teething pretty badly too. He is 16 months, and the last of his molars are coming in. He has all the others. They make him soo cranky! I give him Tylenol when he needs it, and just like you it makes him happier. He gets happy just seeing the bottle because he knows it means pain relief lol. I try not to use it and just cuddle him but if it makes him feel better than why not.

I also use Hylands Teething Gel it works better than anything else we have used. The tablets they used to have worked the best but I cant find them anymore.

Dont feel bad for giving him Tylenol, it happens, and if its what works for you, then dont mess with it. Everyone has to do what works best for them. Frozen towels never worked for us either.

Otter pops on the other hand do. I sometimes just hand him one and he will chew on it, because its cold and brightly colored too, he loves it. Then I will open one and he eats it, numbs his mouth and tastes good and he is much happier.
