Teething or Silent Reflux???

Need advice please!!!-My daughter is 3 1/2 months old and she was on prevacid for Silent reflux. When our prescription was done and I needed to order more, I tried probiotics instead. She stoped her meds about a month ago but is teething now, she almost has her 2 bottom teeth, one is completely out of the gum and the other I can see a few white spots more and more everyday. So my confusion is that she only seams to have issues lately when she eats. She is eating half of what she usually eats, only 3 and 1/2 ozs, she used to eat 6. She is 14 pds, and Tylenol doesn't seam to help and I can't give her Motrin yet because the dr said before they are 6 months it is bad for their hearts!!!! I had no idea and was giving that to her, and unfortunately that was the only thing that seamned to help. I've tried gas drops (Doesn't work) And every day bed time is getting harder and harder and she seams to be waking more during the night. The only time she eats more is when she wakes up at 1:30 a.m or 4:00 a.m??? I hate my baby being on meds, but I don't know what to do? Her crib is inclined, she doesn't scream after she eats or anything, it's just when I'm feeding her she buks back (a little) then cry's a little but still wants the bottle. Eventually she seams to be in too much pain and just doesn't finish the bottle. Prevacid is sooo expensive esp. If I'm not sure she needs it or not? I called my dr today about Zantac. Has anyone had good experience with that medication? I also heard their is a generic for that which could be cheaper???? Any suggestions or thoughts????

What can I do next?

Hi A.. It sounds like the reflux. Out of my 6 kids, 5 had reflux, two of which are still medicated for it. Can your insurance cover it? If not, there is another medication that insurance will cover but her case may not be severe enough to warrant it. It's called Reglan. Another thing is you don't want to give Motrin to kids with reflux anyway because it's hard on the stomach.

We used Zantac first for all the kids and had little help. Prevacid was and is the one medication that has worked for them. My 2 and 3 y.o. are still on it and the 3 y.o. is on Reglan too. It's the only things that keep their little systems in check.

We gave our son Zantac and it worked pretty well. We had the pharmacist add grape flavor to it for an additional $3.00. It's definitely worth a try.

Have you tried other reflux over the counter medicines (like mylanta)? I know many cases are more serious and require prescription medicines. It does sound like you think your daughter does need something for the discomfort.

My son had reflux and took a half a teaspoons of mylanta several times a day for easily the first year. That worked for him.

Good luck.

try GRIPE WATER..that worked for my son when Zantac didn't seem to make a difference. Gripe water settles their stomachs..it works.
