It is possible your baby could be teething. However, my little guy had thrush a couple times with similar symptoms. I would put a call into your doctor just to be sure.
I know this is crazy, but can my 8 week old baby be teething? She has white bumps on her gums and constantly has her hand/fist/thumb in her mouth. She really sucks hard and is drooling a lot too. She is not fussy. Another question, I am supplementing my breast milk with formula at night and every 2 days my baby has a big 'explosion', which leaks through her diapers. I'm using Enfamil with Iron - any suggestions to stop the explosions/leaks.

My daughter is 8 weeks as well. She puts her hand/fist in her mouth too....for her it is a feeding cue. When she starts sucking on her fist latch her on and see if she may want to nurse. With my past experience ( my 1st) teething has come with a cold and fussiness. As for the explosions...I breast fed both of my daughters had watery poopies that would make a huge mess....I hope this helps! You are doing a great job!
Hi M.,
My son had two white bumps on his gums where his eye teeth would be... My doc said they are from sucking on the nipple of the bottle to hard so I moved his nipple from a one to a two and they went away. As far as the explosive diapers I found that his were from my breastmilk (because of the stuff I ate) he alse got formula at night and than the breastmilk during the day. Once he was getting just formula the expolsive diapers went away!! Hope this helps, Good Luck and congrats!!
It doesn't happen often but it does happen, my cousin's baby was born with one front tooth....it was strange but the pediatrician said that it happens.
Hey M.,
Not sure on the white bumps but my little one (6 mos. now) has been eating her fist like it's going out of style since she was 6 wks old! No teeth yet and between the drool and spitup, she's never without a bib (except when she sleeps.) As far as the explosions go - I've been nursing only and she pooped, for lack of a better word, every diaper until she started on rice cereal about a month ago. We still have exposions once and a while. Spray and wash before I throw her outfits in the washer has saved me tons of money! I've heard that formula fed babies don't explode as much because it's not as runny. The breastmilk processes faster in the body so it doesn't have as much time to solidify. Good luck and remember - spray and wash!!

Hi M.,
That seems a bit early for teething, my son had those bumps too (could be normal) but didn't teeth until about 4 months. At this age they love to suck and that might be why she has her fingers in her mouth. Not sure what you can do with the explosions but my son was the same way. I did mostly breastfeeding and his diapers leaked a lot at this age.
Good Luck!
Hi M.,
Your daughter may not be teething, it may just be from sucking on a bottle/breastfeeding. Sometime they get like little cankers on their gums. You can try mylecon drops in her bottle too, she may just be getting alot of gas, hence the big explosion! Hope this helps!
It can be possible although rare.Keep watching sometimes the white is caused from thrust .
Sounds like thrush to me... which is way more common than a newborn teething (though, looks like it does happen occasionally). Talk to a lactation consultant - they usually have more info and time than doctors when it comes to these ordinary newborn questions. And often, they can answer questions over the phone. The hospital where you gave birth probably has a few on-call. I know Beverly Hospital has a slew of them.
