try the baby teething ointments instead of the tablets and rub it on his gums quite often. Don't lapse on his motrin/tylenol. You have to not wait until he's uncomfortable before giving it to him.
My son is 7 months old. He just got his first tooth in about a week ago. He has been crying non stop, throwing up, not sleeping at all, been running a fever of 100-102, and wants to be held at ALL times! I took him to the dr last week to have his ears checked and turns out his right ear was a little red so she put him on antibiotics. I've been giving him teething tablets, motrin, and tylenol for the fever and his pain. I've also been giving him pedylite but he wont drink much. He has had very few wet diapers today. I've called my dr several times but have heard nothing back!! What should i do??

Hi A., We are going though the same thing with my 16 month old, I'm taking her today to see if she has an ear infection. Mine also won't drink the pedylite, my dr. has said if they are older than 6 months you can try gatorade, he might like that better anything to keep them hydrated. My Dr. also says they should have at least one wet diaper every 8 hours. If not you need to take him for de-hydration. Other signs of de-hydration are no tears when he crys, if you push on his skin and it "sticks" or kind of leaves a impression where you pushed. If he has any of these signs of de-hydration you need to take him to an urgent care or er right away. Also the antibiotic can take a few days to work, but if its been a week and he's still running a fever I would take him back to have his ears re-checked. I think my dr said if they still have a fever after 5 days they wanted her to be re-check. Other than that, just keep doing what your doing. motrin for the pain & fever and lots of holding and snuggles. I hope he feels better soon, I know its Exhausting, but hang in there.
Hi A.,
Best to see the pediatrician - My pediatrician told me that fever is not usually caused by teething. So I would do more digging on this one. See the following symptoms and ask your doctor if he has the folowing symptoms:
fever
diahrea
vomiting (projectile - cant keep his food in)
a runny nose
coughing (Usually caused by nasal drip)
It could be a stomach bug caused by the rotavirus, called gastroenteritis - common in babies especially if they are in daycare or around other kids allot.
You can try the tasteless pedialite, mixed with his favorite juice or even dilute formula, one scoop for 4 ounces of water and 2 ounces of pedialite. Clear liquids are best if he is vomiting. My son went through this stage more times than I can count. Its nothing to do with teething if he has these symptoms. Antibiotics will not help for a stomach bug, so pedialite, tylenol for fever and the B.R.A.T diet(Bananas, Rice Cereal, Applesauce, Toast) will be good. Try a few bites and see if he holds the food in, try a few more.. and so on.
But like the other mommies suggestion, if he has an earache (often as part of the teething process, or caused by feeding him formula while he is on lying his back - the milk somehow gathers and liquid forms in his ear canal) The doctor might give you an antibiotic for this, or eardrops.
If you are not sure if this is teething related or a virus, call your pediatric nurse and ask her if she thinks you need to come in for a doctors visit - and give her your symptoms. More often than not you pay $20 co-pay just so the doctor can tell you to use tylenol and pedialite.
Orajel works well (you can try the night time orajel that works immediately and is soothing for sleepy time or you can try the Homeopathic remedies that are available.)
This has been my experience, I hope some of the info can help you, help your precious baby.
Good Luck!
If your doctor is not calling you back, get a new doctor immediately. Your son could have a urinary (sp ?)infection. I don't think this is anything to fool around with. It really upsets me that the doctor is not calling you back.

I would take your son back to the dr. Maybe the antibiotics isn't working. My son had one and we went through 3 different antibiotics before his ear infection finally went away. HE might be allergic to the med and that might be upseting his tummy and causing him to throw up. Try to give him as much fluid as posible, pedylite, breastmilk/fomula, water or even watered down juice. Good luck and God bless!
Forget calling the doctor, go to the doctor. This just does not seem like something a baby would do when teething. Some have a small runny nose and a low grade fever. But I have never heard of one throwing up, crying all the time, ect. You could call the nurse, but she will more than likely tell you to come on in.
Hi A.,
I just went through this last month with my (then) 9 month old and two year old. Push the pedialyte. If he doesn't take that, give him milk little by little every hour. It got to the point where I had to give my daughter pedialyte by syringe... hopefully you won't get to that point.
I have found that by just calling to schedule a sick visit instead of waiting for a response was easier. Yes I had to pay the co-pay; but was fine knowing that I had a clear conscience.
Good luck and I hope your son recovers soon.
u should go to the hospital and get his ears checked out to make sure the antibiotics worked and if its not his ears just give him a warm bath with the baby bedtime shampoo by jonhson and johnson and be very patient and make him feel very confortable and try the baby oragels they work great and try to keep the fever down good luck and i hope he gets better
get the ears rechecked...sometimes it takes more than one round of antibiotics to clear up the infection.
