Hi, I have posted on here a couple of times and have received such great advice and responses so here is another one. My daughter just turned one last week and has been cutting her molars for about two weeks. Well I just looked at her poor little gums and both molars are right there and about to break through. This of course caused a bit of congestion which in turn caused an ear infection. My question is what advice can anyone give me to just help with her comfort. She is miserable going to bed at night..understandably. Once she is asleep she seems to sleep ok but it's like she's developed an aversion to her crib. It's been the last three nights. I don't know if lying down makes her teeth and ears hurt worse or what. She still takes one bottle at night (on sippie cup throughout the day) and that seems to actually give her some relief. I've let her cry for about 10 minutes but then my heart just breaks for her and I go in there. I'll actually make another 4 oz bottle and by the time she's halfway through she's passed out cold and I put her to bed. Has anyone experienced sudden behavior changes or sleep disruptions with the molars coming in? And, how long do they take to break through?
Thanks for you help.

when they have an ear infection it is hard. sometimes they want thier mom when they do not feel well. make sure to elevate the crib at the end that she sleeps. this will help witht he congestion.give her some motrin for infants for the pain. make sure she drinks lots of liquids. My son just had an ear infection and he was screaming, yelling and being rotten when he did not feel well. It ws like jekyl and hyde. This too shall pass.

OMG, I found something awsome it is called teething tablets by hylands. They sell it at Target, it was sent from God! Could not have made it through my son's teething problems without it! Hang in there. T.

Every tooth my son has cut results in shorter or no naps, a greater attachment to mommy & less sleeping at night. During the day he often eats meals in my lap & every bump & every unexpected turn of events requires a hug from mommy. No one else will do. At night he started sleeping with us, until we discovered tylenol & motrin! I would give him a dose before bed & one before nap time. He would sleep great! He would wake up at night as soon as the med wore off. Then we would bring him to bed with us, but you could always give another dose. This should also help relieve her ear pain. (We have not had an ear infection yet.) I usually gave tylenol at naps & motrin at bed (the motrin lasts longer

Teething is miserable--for the child and for those of us who get to watch the misery. I agree with giving Tylenol (if that is still OK to do--my son is 6 and these things change every year!) Also, you might consider propping the head of her crib up on phonebooks to help relieve her congestion a little. I'd probably continue to do what your doing--if the extra bottle seems to calm her to sleep, then do it. You may, however, have to "un-do" this once the teeth break through. BUt I say--go with what works when a kid is sick/uncomfortable.
O. other thing I did was to take about 6-8 baby washcloths, wet them, fold into quarters and freeze in a stack in a Ziplock bag. Give her O. to munch on & it helped my son. Also, have you tried the Hyland's teething tablets? I didn't know about them when my son was teething, but I have several friends who swear by them. They dissolve instantly on the tongue and are all natural. Hang in there & good luck!

give her tylenol/advil 30 min before bed to help with the pain and inflammation yes does affect sleep patterns for a bit. The sucking actually might make it worse, more pressure, did you just switch bottles/cup ?

Will pass till the next problem.

I just wanted to agree with the previous person... hylands teething tablets are the best!!!!!!! I'm not kidding, when my daughter was 6 months old, she was cutting all 4 top front teeth at once, and she was SO cranky... I popped two of those in her mouth and in an instant, she was smiling and waving. it was amazing! Totally worth a try!!!!!!! They are homeopathic too... all natural. Love them! I give them to everyone at their babyshowers now!!! :-)
