it's probably just teething but even if it's not - a runny nose alone isn't significant enough to warrant going to the doctor. If it's a cold, then it's a virus and there's nothing the doctor can do anyway (antibiotics are only for bacterial infections). However, keep an eye on the color of the mucus - it's normal to be yellow or green after he gets up in the morning or after a nap but if it's consistently running yellow or green that could signal something more than teething.

It could be either, does he appear sick, crabby, achy or feverish? If he does then he could be getting sick. If not it is probably just from the teething. God Bless!

It sounds like teething to me. Dont be surprized if he gets some loose poops almost like direah too cause of all the excess droool. My son gets the whole deal, runny nose, direah, drool, crying a lot, chewing on everything, even a slight fever while cutting teeth.

I learned the hard way that taking them to the doctor for a runny nose was a waste of time. Every doctor I talked to said that runny noses are not from teething and I think it is a conspiracy... Every time my children have gotten teeth, they have pulled at the ears, gotten a runny nose, and drooled like crazy. Sometimes they even get fevers. I think it has been way too often to be a coincidence. Just keep an eye on him. My doctors office has a nurse line. If yours does, call and ask a nurse about it to ease your concern.

Totally normal for my little guy. Every single time he is teething... runny knows and very mid fever....very little appetite (only a bottle) and irritability. And lets not forget the disruption in sleep. We use the natural teething tablets which are great. And, occasionally, ibuprofen for the really hard times with the teeth. My little girl always gets a runny nose while she's teething. I have taken her to the Dr several times for the runny nose only for them to send me home because there's nothing they can do for it. Eventually I noticed that a tooth emerged shortly after the runny nose almost every time! But you never know if a tooth is really coming in or if it's a cold. My Dr. has told me I can give her a little Benadryl for her runny nose, but I would definitely ask your Dr first to see what she/he recommends for your little guy. Like I said, there is not much they can do for a cold, but if he gets real cranky, has a fever, has trouble sleeping or pulls at his ear it might be an ear infection and he would need to see the Dr right away for that. Different people have different theories on this one. I think in my experience, yes, a runny nose comes with teething, especially on the top because teeth are directly related to the sinuses. I wouldn't worry about taking him to the dr. for a runny nose because they will probably just send you home telling you it's a cold anyway.

Runny nose is classic teething. Even if it is a cold, you don't need to see a doctor unless he is running a high fever. if it's just sniffles, the best thing to do is let it run it's course. Elevate the head of his crib mattress and maybe a humidifier to help him breath. If things just "aren't quite right" and your Mommy-meter goes off, head on to the Peds office

Sounds normal to me! All the excess slobber is getting backed up and the only other option is the nose (since they are connected). Unless you notice a cough or the runny nose turns yellow or green I wouldn't worry about it. My neice sobbered and had a runny nose for what seemed 2 years and she wasn't sick.

sounds like teething. If it is a cold, he'll work through it in a few days, but I'd almost bet it's the teething. A mom recommended natural teething tablets - they are Hylands, not Nylands (sure it was just a typo) and they work wonderfully.

It may be allergies. My 7 month old daughter just started with a runny nose and she sounds a bit congested. I called the Pediatrician and they called me in some drops to give her. As long as he doesn't start pulling on his ears, because that is a sign of an ear infection. I would just call his dr. and describe the symptoms.

Oh, and, an old midwives' remedy for teething - take 1/2 of a calcium/magnesium tablet, crush it up, and put it in yogurt or applesauce, and have him eat it. Calcium gets depleted during teething, and can cause headaches...etc - this can help if he isn't feeling well or sleeping well because of the teething. Teething-runny-nose is usually really watery and clear - a virus will cause more mucousy/yellow/green snot.
