How long does diarrhea last while cutting teeth? My 6 month old just cut his first tooth and has had diarrhea for almost a week now(no fever).

What can I do next?

Hi J., I'm a Mom of three and Grandma of almost six,a week is a little too long for diarrhea from teething. It may be some juice that you are giving him or something he is eating like too much fruit. My pediatrician always suggested that I put weakened sweet tea in my babies bottles to help curb diarrhea, if you have some iced tea just add water to it. I would also call the doctor if none of this helps, you don't want your precious one to get dehydrated. Hope this helps.

My baby just went through this. I took him to the doctor for the diarreha because it lasted about a week. He is only three months old and the doctor said he is too young to be teething....but I KNOW he is. Hes drooling like crazy and chewing on anything he can get ahold of. It lasted about a week or so. The doctor said if it lasted 10 days or more they would test him for something else, I counted the days and it stopped before then. But the stomach flu is going around too so be careful, usually when little ones get it they only have diarreha. My son also got horrible diaper rash from it. Good luck!

He could be trying to cut multiple teeth back-to-back which is why the diarrhea is lasting so long. I wouldn't worry too much, but you can always call your Dr.'s office and talk to a nurse just to be sure! They can tell you if you should make an appointment or not or the likelihood that it is something else that is causing the diarrhea. Good luck and I hope it's just teeth! ;)

J.-

My 16 month old daughter just got over 4 weeks of off/on again diarrhea while cutting her last eye tooth. I took her to the doctor and eventually had her tested for cryptospyrodium (someone at her daycare had it) to see if there was something wrong! As soon as the tooth came through, it stopped!!! And the tests for crypto. came back negative! So 1 month is the longest I've seen!!
