My baby girl is a real grouch lately! I know some signs for teething, but I was wondering what else I could watch for? She still sleeps well, but one night she screamed, not just a normal scream, a "hurting" scream and I had to go hold her for awhile to get her back to sleep. She sometimes has a runny nose, she's been drooling a lot and she likes to suck on those soothie (cooled in the fridge) toys. If it is teething, what are some other signs and what can I do to help?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice. This must be a long process!!! She's kind of going through her good and bad days right now so I don't think it's quite to the real painful stage yet. Not looking forward to seeing her in pain so I will definitely keep in mind all the wonderful ideas I received. Thank you!

My daughter did this a lot when she was about 5 or 6 months old and I thought that she too was teething and I talked to her doctor about it. He said that she could be going through growth spurts and that can make them moody and can make baby's body a little sore or seem like they are teething. He said that I could give her tylenol and orajel in case it was teething. Just throwing that out there. Good luck!

I gave my daughter Tylenol at night so that she could sleep, since that seemed to be the worst time for her. My pediatrician also suggested rubbing children's liquid Benadryl on her gums. He said that it stays effective longer than Orajel. That really seemd to work, too. My daughter cut her first teeth (2 on the bottom) at about the same age as your daughter. Are her gums really red and kind of swollen? Can you see the teeth right below the gums? If so, you're right -- she's teething! Good luck!

Watch for a fever. I know my Kiah gets fevered whenever she has crying spells at night. I'll go in to pick her up and she will have her entire fist in her mouth with drool everywhere. If she is fevered, I'd recommend giving her tylenol.

Also teething tablets work well.

We are going through the same thing...teething can be rough.

Sounds like you got it all down and know what to watch for. I've also heard of diarrhea in teething children and also fever like the other lady said. Another thing is....you notice them biting everything and everything goes in mouth!! But with the weather the way it is hot then cold, hot the cold.....keep in mind things like ear infections...They can't tell you what it is and it is similar symptoms. If it lasts for several days like that and the discomfort.....get an appointment!! Better safe than sorry with a simple Ped. appointment!! That way they can also def. narrow down the problem!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

The teething tablets that Meagan mentioned are wonderful. My little girl just lets me put the tablets on her tongue. They dissolve instantly, she seems to like the taste, and they really stop the teething pain. Soooo much better than that gum gel that tastes horrible and doesn't last longer than a couple minutes. The tabs are sold right next to the Orajel.
Good luck!

my daughter is teething too. she's slobbers alot when a new tooth is coming in and she gnaws on her fingers alot or chews her tongue. she is very unwilling to let anybody look at her gums. i giver 2-3 homeopathic teething tablets disolved in juice or water...they help alot and can be found at walmart. baby orajel helps alot too.

Hyland's Teething Tablets are 100% natural and they work AWESOME! My little guy is 15 months old and he loves them so much, that he starts to fuss that he wants to eat more! LOL! Honestly, unless he's running a fever, I don't even give him any tylenol or motrin ~ the teething tablets work fine alone. =) You can check out the website at http://www.hylands.com/products/teething.php and you can find them at any pharmacy or walmart type store.
