My 15 week old is teething and can't seem to fit her teething toys into her mouth. The orajel addiction is fading. Washrags and popsicles are too messy. Any other household solutions out there? help!

Hi E.,
Have you tried the frozen rings? They are like popsicles wrapped in plastic. You buy them in the regular baby toy isle (like at Target) and they are room temp - just pop in the freezer. They are cheap, and they worked well for us - we never tried Orajel. Plus, we just used good old fashioned Ibuprofen for pain - it lasts way longer than Tylenol, not messy and gives a lot of relief. But - some mom's don't like giving medications that early. And that is fine!

Also - keep your "coolness!!" I'm 34 and I say groovy and nifty. When you turn 30, you won't care what people think anyway!! So - dont' worry about all the other mom's - just worry about being happy with you!

Good luck!

Hi E.,

I went through the same thing when my baby was about the same age. The thing that worked best was something I picked up at Kroger. It was this teether that vibrates. It has points at the top and looks like half of a star. It does fit in little mouths alot better and I think it was only about $6.00. It was kind of a pain at first since I had to hold it in his mouth but it really works!! He got the hang of it after a few days. He still uses it now at almost 9 months.

I hope this helps you!!

E.

Hi E. -
I have found that my 5 month old, Sophia, really likes teething pacifiers. Basically, the difference is that on the nipple itself, there is some texture to the silicone, and the outer ring on the outside of the pacifier is textured & filled with a gel (I keep them in the fridge). She seems to have a lot of fun with them - perhaps you will have some luck!

Pain medication in a smaller dose helped (I hate giving medicine unless it is a real necessity) Also, I looked around for several different types of teething rings, there is one that is shaped like a butterfly. It worked. There is a finger toothbrush that is rubbery and kind of looks like a thimble. You can rub her gums as well.

I have a 19 month old daughter and 4 older kids. I have always found that frozen mini bagels are the best teether and they're nutritious as well! Good Luck!
