My 3 month old is miserable. I think he is cutting teeth (his brother was also early). He drools, bites/chews, has swollen gums, a rash on his face and all he wants to do is nurse. He has a temp of 100.1. I have been giving him tylenol and orajel and that seems to work fine for about an hour but the directions say 4 hours apart. Is there anything I can do for him in the mean time? He sleeps in 15 minutes intervals. It is hard to see him "suffer" like this and it is also wearing me out.

What can I do next?

You can alternate tylonol and ibuprofen, they are different types of pain relievers. You can give tylonol and 2 hours later give a dose of ibuprofin then 2 hours later give the tylonol again and so on and so on. This is what my childrens pediatrition said I should do to help my 2 little ones with their pain.

I was going to reccomend the teething tablets and the alternating doses of ibuprofen and tylenol as well. Unfortunately when they cut teeth there really isn't much you can do but try to make them more comfortable, and even that is hard.

I had a new found empathy for my son's tooth cutting when I had my first wisdom tooth come in...OUCH! Talk about painful, and then to imagine they are coming in two at a time, in his case three or four at a time, I'm surprised babies do as well with it as they actually do. Hang in there, it will pass!!

Dear E.,
I completely understand how exhausting it can be when your child is teething. When my first child was teething, his grandma told me about something called Hyland's teething tablets and they work so well it's amazing!! Seriously. They dissolve instantly, and because they're homeopathic (all natural) can be used pretty much around the clock. You can buy them at Wal-Mart or pretty much any drug store, although to save yourself a trip to the wrong one, I would call and check first. Hyland's has a whole line of all natural products that you can use for your kids. I hope that this helps. Take care.

My son, who is now 7 months, has been the EXACT same way since he was about 3 months. I keep tylenol on hand at all times. I have also gone to Wild Oats or any health food store to get some homeopathic remedies for him to keep him from having to rely on Tylenol as I didn't want to give it to him all the time. Be careful on using Oralgel or things of that nature, it's easy to over dose children on that and it can be harmful to them if you do. My other children did not react like this to teething and I've been trying to whatever I can to make him comfortable. Sometimes that means he sleeps with me so that when he wakes, he knows I'm there and we BOTH get more sleep. Hang in there.... Also, have you tried using cold wash cloths or frozen cloths for him to chew on. My son actually likes a spoon dipped in cold water. It seems really feel good to him.

Hang in there......
