My 1 year old daughter has 2 bottom and 2 top teeth and insists on grinding them. I have asked a few of my coworkers if their kids did this at this age, and they said yes, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to prevent her from doing that?

What can I do next?

All 3 of my kids did it at that age. :) They especially liked doing it right behind me in the car for some reason... it was very irritating, but they all out grew it.

You can't prevent her from doing it , it will soon pass , it's just while they get used to the sensation of having teeth that touch

I asked the dentist about this too since my little boy grinds at night. He said that is it perfctly normal for the kids to do that! Don't worry!

So sorry! That sound is horrible! My son (now 3 1/2) did it too. The best thing I could do, but possibly the hardest, was to ignore it. I know it's hard, but when he got attention for it he did it more. It will pass.

My son did the same thing. Isn't it the most horrible sound? Luckily, it didn't last long but it drove me and my husband crazy! The only thing that worked (and not every time) was to distract him with an activity that caused him to laugh or babble. Most of the time we just had to bear it. Good luck!

My daughter did the same thing and my pede said it would be a short lived phase and it was- about 2 weeks. The doc said we didn't need to do anything as she wasn't strong enough to damage the teeth by grinding them. The best thing, she said, is to not react to it. If we ignore it she will eventually get used to the teeth and will stop doing it- and she did about 4 days later!

Oh, I will be watching to see if anyone gives you any good ideas, my son does this (also in the car) and it sounds AWFUL. He seems to find it amusing, not only because it's a new sensation, but because it gets mommy in a bunch.
