My son LOVES to learn. I have never forced learning new things on him. We learn by having fun and once he loses interest we stop and move on to something else. With that said, my son loves watching Dora and has learned to count to 5 and knows about 4 or 6 other words for example he wil shut the door and say shut in spanish as he does it. So I would like to continue teaching him spanish. Since I don't speak spanish I was wonder if anyone knows of some good DVD's out there that we could use together and teach us both spanish. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Unfortunately if you really want him to know Spanish, a dvd/cd/book won't do the trick. My family is from Argentina and I grew up hearing Spanish constantly and can speak pretty fluently...my brother on the other hand learned from text books because the family had already learned English by the time he was born and is not so good at speaking Spanish.

On that note, my friends have used Rosetta Stone for the computer, and they are able to get by in general conversation, but on very basic levels. Your best bet is to expose him to as much of the language as possible as often as you can for him to truly pick it up.

I think its a great idea. I don't know anything about them, but I've heard good reviews on the "Muzzy" program.

I would also recommend checking out your local library. Our library has several books along with a tape in a variety of languages. You may also want to consider buying a cd that has some of his favorite songs sung in Spanish.

The "Hooked on Phonics" Makers have a Spanish program

That Amaxon seller has it for $25 down from $100. I got mine from Tuesday Morning, but the same idea - paying less then retail :)

I think Muzzy DVD's would be good. I always see the commercials and it's geared for kids. I believe there are numerous languages to choose from.

Your son will most likely begin Spanish classes in K and first grade (mine did!). In the meantime, here's a website for expanding his español vocabulary!

Besides what the ladies mentioned below check out your local public library... I have gotten many kids tapes/CD's, books and DVDs in various languages. My daughter knows a little Spanish, Japanese and German just from the few things I have picked up from the library in the past two weeks. We also watch Dora and all those other programs.

It's not a video, but a great book is the Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Spanish Dictionary. It has all the words in Spanish and English, with great pictures. I had it as a child, and now my son loves it as well.
