Let me start by saying, my daughter has a excellent teacher. My daughter mentioned last week that her teachers bday is soon. The teachers bday is also on the calendar that comes home. I was thinking about maybe getting her a starbucks gc and a cute card from my daughter. Is it weird to get teachers something for their bday? I dont want to not do anything, but dont want it to be innappropriate to get her a gift. What do you think? This is kindergarten so Im new at this!

What can I do next?

I am all for giving teacher gifts and showing appreciation, At thebeginning of the year and at christmas and Valentines and at teh end of the year.

I find it extremely odd that they teacher is Advertising her bday on the send home calendar, that just seems cheesy to me.

As so whether or not to send something, it's up to you. And i would hate to have my kid be the only one NOT doing something, although i have found only about half the class does stuff in my kids public elem school.

Just doesn't sit too well with me, like she is asking for gifts and putting herself on level with the kids.

Last year one of the homeroom moms found out the teachers bday and we all went in on flowers. She was thrilled! She was also a kindergarten teacher. I think it is a great idea :)

IMO a card from your daughter and a gift card is a nice and totally appropriate way of showing appreciation to your daughter's teacher. And I don't think it's weird at all - great teachers are such a blessing to our families and communities so we enjoy when we have a chance to show a little extra appreciation :-)

It's never inappropriate to give someone you care about a gift for any occassion. However, IMO, b-day gifts should not be given to teachers, as there are much more appropriate times to show your appreciation. You could give a gift or a card during teacher appreciaton week or at the end of the school year.

I gotta say, my gut reaction is that a "gift" for a teacher is inappropriate, as it may be exclusionary.
Have your daughter make a special card instead.
I, too, find it odd that a teacher would put their own birthday on the monthly calendar.

I personally see nothing wrong with this, especially at that age. It is a way to relate to the kids and let them share her special day. I don't believe she is fishing for gifts. If you really like the teacher I would not hesitate for your daughter to make her a card and give her a token gift (only if you wish and can afford it). I am sure she would be happy with just a card.

Hmmmm... well my daughter is now in 3rd Grade... looking back since she was in Preschool, the kids/parent never really knew, when a Teacher's B-Day was. So, I have never gotten them a gift.

I really think, it is not expected. Nor necessary.
But your daughter's Teacher, actually put HER own birthday on the class calendar.
None of my daughter's Teachers, did that.

I am a teacher and I too think it's strange to print your b-day on the calendar, but if she is doing a great job, it is so sweet to get something. A card made by your daughter and a gc is great...

She will really appreciate it!

No, it's not weird. I haven't gotten many gifts on my birthday, but the few times I have tell me that my student really enjoys being in my class.

Check with the schools policy to be sure. Another idea would be to wait until teacher appreciation which should be coming up soon. A simple card would probably be nice enough too. But weird. Not really since everyone knows when her birthday is!
