Teacher to Data Analyst? NEED ADVICE

I have been offered a job as a Data Analyst at my school where I have been a teacher for 6 years. I think I am a good teacher but I am truly burnt out. I would like a job switch but I need some advice. I dont know if I should take the job, especially with jobs being eliminated, I am afraid that the data analyst position at my school could disappear. Also I have fears that I would miss teaching and that I would suck at being a Data Analyst and suck at being put into a semi authoritarian role.

If any of you could help me, I would certainly appreciate any advice. Thanks so much!

I would really consider it. I am a teacher too, and I know when burnout begins, it is nearly impossible to overcome. As a data analyst are you talking about your school's data? If so, you could have a powerful influence to create some effective changes. You are a teacher, so you know the stuff behind the data, and are in a perfect position to know what it means and what to do with it. What you learn could help you drive changes that benefit your school. I would get a lot of satisfaction out of that. Also, find out if you would be able to return to teaching at some point, because you could have that for security if this position does not work out.

Find out if you'll have classroom return rights. A lot of times when teachers move up to administrative roles, they have return rights to the classroom with their seniority freezing the day they leave (so the years you spend as a data analyst don't count toward seniority) but that way you could go back to the classroom if that feels right.

Hope this helps,
T.
