I'd like to ask my question a different way-- is there any CHEAP way to get teacher certified (seconedary). I have an M.A. in English.

Other than getting another degree in education your only other option is an alternative certification program. I found this site for Texas, be warned there is some truly fantastic music on their homepage. http://www.texasacp.com/index_files/Page676.htm
Good luck, and congratulations on the decision to become a teacher. I love my job.

I'm from Michigan so I'm not sure how it works where you live, but look online at some of your local universities that have teacher prep programs. There should be an option where you can get your initial teacher certification. Since you already have a degree, you would only have to take the teacher ed courses that are mandated by your state. With a Master's degree I don't think you would have that many clasees. Then you would also have to do student teaching.

I have no idea what price range you are looking for, but I did this one several years ago http://www.ecapteach.com/ and really liked it. You pretty much had to only do that program for two months or so but I thought it was great.
