Teacher Appreciation Week - Round Lake,IL

it's pretty awesome if you do, but not terrible if you don't. With the end of the school year being in 3 wks here I am not doing much at all.

The schools usually have things planned for the teachers. But, if you value you teacher, then yes! By all means acknowledge her in some way.

I bought flowers (on sale thanks to Mother's Day) and put them in a mason jar. I used the tule they were wrapped in to make a bow on the jar. We then wrote a note about how she has helped my son "bloom and grow". It was inexpensive, but I wanted to thank her.

It doesn't have to be extravagant at all. As a former teacher, I can tell you that the trinkets come and go. But those heartfelt letters from parents and students are treasures I hold dear.

Yes! Usually the school or PTO will do things during the week to appreciate the teachers (muffins, lunch, etc). But, if you appreciate the work your child's teacher does, then you should do something on your own. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate. You can write a nice note of thanks--and include a gift card if you want! If you don't want to spend much, you can do $5 or $10 at Starbucks, Hallmark, etc.

No, you do not need to do anything. You do not have to participate in the events that may be planned by the PTA/PTO. You do not have to send in anything. It's strictly voluntary and don't be made to feel guilty if it's your decission not to participate.

However, if your child has a wonderful teacher, now is a great time to let him/her know how much you appreciate them. You can purchase them a gift, make them a gift, get them a card, send in a handwriten note, or even have your child draw a picture.

Usually the parent group for the school will do something - like have a luncheon and give them all a plant or flowers. At the end of the year a small token if your child and you like the teacher is a nice thank you. I would suggest nothing with apples, lol. A small gift card to a book or teacher supply store is always welcome - or maybe some coffee or tea in a nice gift-wrap or bag.

Our PTO usually sends a note with suggestions of things to do during the week for your teacher. In my case, my kid made a card for his teacher on Monday, we sent a flower for a class bouquet yesterday, I made a soup for a teachers luncheon today and there are a couple of other things planed for the rest of the week.
If you didn't get anything like that note, maybe a thank you note and/or a flower would be a nice gesture to your kids teacher.

Teachers appreciate being appreciated. That really is the bottom line. I teach at a preschool and a couple of moms have volunteered, on their own, to bring us lunch a couple of days this week! Super sweet, very unexpected and over the top nice!

At my girl's school they (PTA) sent out a note a couple of weeks ago, letting parents know about this week. They suggested donations so that they can purchase something on the teachers wish list. ie new toaster, dye cuts, plus a lunch provided on Wednesday. If you wanted to participate, you sent in money, if not, you didn't. They also asked for treat donations. You could make/buy something, drop it off in the morning and they took care of putting it out for the teachers & staff. Really a nice thing that I'm sure means a lot.

My neice just started her first teaching job this year. She is teaching in a Catholic school in Wisconsin. Only one child (as of yesterday) even mentioned it. That child brought her in a card and a cookie. She left her cookie on her desk, at some point left the room, and when she came back it was gone. She doesn't care about the things but can't believe no one has really said anything. she is starting to feel un-appreciated. I gave her a pep talk, I think it's better.

Growing up, I went to Catholic schools, we always acknowledged our teachers on this week, but we didnt make as big if a deal out if it. Since my oldest has started school (public), teacher appreciation week is always a big deal. Personally, I love when the teachers light up about there treats and how wonderful it is to have things all week.

So, no you don't have to, but it sure is nice!
