Our sons teacher has made him like school this year (he had a hard time last year). She is wonderful. I am wondering should we give her a small plant or big plant? I don't want to look cheap yet it is for my child to give her. I don't want any kids to feel left out yet I would like to give her a nice gift. I loved this big plant but wasn't sure if it was too much so I bought a small one which she can plant outside to remember him by.
I gave my daughter's teachers a gardenia plant for the classroom. It was smallish - appropriate for the classroom.
Any gift - large or small is appreciated.
Whatever gift you decide - please consider writing a note/card expressing your gratitude. Honestly, as a teacher, those are the things that last: grateful words and knowing that I have made a difference.
Give what you want! Ifyou think the big plant is too lavish, give it at the end of the day after the other parents leave.
I am thinking a nice basket of classroom supplies would be most appreciated and best used personally ... some of the local classroom supply stores have teacher "wish list" items it would be nice to find out what is on hers.
As a teacher, I think it's great that you are acknoledging your son's teacher. However, i would go with a gift card. You can't go wrong!
maybe a personalized gift from your son expressing her affect on him.
forget the personalized gifts....teachers tire of them quickly & they end up in yard sales or given/thrown away.
plants are nice, but how many can you receive & care for? They add up over the years.
Thru my sons' school years, I always tried to reboost those disposable classroom items - especially those items used during "inside recess"! Puzzles, games, cards, etc have always been well-received by their teachers. The first year I did this, the teacher was so excited that my reputation kinda' followed me to the next year!
Oh, & I do have many friends who are teachers & they all have mentioned that they love gift cards to local stores/restaurants. Impersonal, but I get their point on the subject!
How sweet of you! I think I would give the small plant, and then, if you wanted to do more, give her a card with a gift card in it. That way you can give more and no one knows the difference.

Teachers are underpaid, and still use their own money to buy classroom supplies. I would either give a gift certificate to a coffee shop or store (Target/Walmart) or classroom supplies. The idea isn't for the teacher to remember your son, it's for the teacher to be appreciated.
I don't know how old your son is, but I am 100% positive that if he wrote her even a short note telling her that she helped him to like school this year, she would be over the moon.
I have taught HS for 10 years, and I can still remember every student who emailed me at the end of the year to say thank you and that I/my class somehow mattered to them.
The plant is a lovely gesture, but I agree w/the gift card - Target or Barnes and Noble or even Michael's or some other craft store. You son can give the plant and you can tuck a gift card (even $10 helps) in a card your son makes.
I think you should give whatever makes you feel comfortable, it could be a $50 gift, a card, or something inbetween, or it could be nothing at all.
I like the idea of a smaller plant, because she may not have the room for a large plant.
It IS the thought that counts and you don't want to be "that mom" do you? lol
Include a heartfelt note saying what a very real and positive impact she has made on your child and his outlook on academics and school. Teachers dig that stuff the most!
I've been doing food gifts all week. In fact the pumpkin bread is in the oven for tomorrow's gift.
Monday was three kinds of cookies and two kinds of milk.
Today was a big sandwich tray and an assortment of chips with homemade chocolate chip banana bread.
Thursday is cream cheese/chocolate/chocolate chip cupcakes.
My son gets great attention and care in the classroom and there's two teachers and 2-3 teacher's assistants that ROCK!
It seems overboard but I'll do anything for my son and for people who truely care for and about him.
I also donated some of my son's toys he has outgrown and never plays with anymore.
