I'm a former elementary school teacher and I got to many nick nacks. Bath and Body lotions or candles were a great gift. My child is in elementary school now and I've been getting her teachers gift cards to a teacher/school store. I would have loved to get a gift like that because I could have chosen something useful to use with my classes. I have spent about $20 on each gift. I think that's a good amount for choosing something useful at that kind of store.

As a teacher, I say $5 Starbucks or Sonic cards are my FAVORITE! Since she probably has quite a few students each year I would not get knick-knacks or things she will have to find a place for. If you realllly love her, a gift card to the mall would be great! Or just ask her what places she likes! Stay away from the dollar store, candles, mugs (please no more), and fake flowers. A simple note is usually more appreciated!

Give a gift card or 2. For dinner and a movie. Or even
a pampering such as manicure, pedicure or even
a couple of hours at a spa. Call around and get prices
and don't get out of your budget.

I taught Kinder before I had my son. I think a nice bouquet of flowers would be appreciated. I used to get some WEIRD stuff that I frankly didn't know what to do with and I think everyone loves flowers. You don't even have to spend that much. You can get some pretty flowers at the grocery store so you don't break your budget. Also a card or note of thanks that you and your daughter write would be a nice gesture of thanks. You can do this for as little as $10. That's very sweet of you to get her teacher a gift!

I sell Home Interiors & I have given one of our Baked Apple Pie candles that are in a glass jar shaped like an apple to my kids' teachers! It's been a real hit! They're just $12.99 plus shipping and tax.

They've also got some cute gifts that are a little more expensive at a store I've seen in Southlake called "Gifts" or something like that. It's in the same shopping center as the Hallmark on 1709.

I think around $15 should be the limit.

Last yr the book fair was at the end of the school year, it will be again. I found out what kind of books the teachers would like for her class room and bought one for her class.
She was thrilled as she had several that she really liked and wanted.. I then send her a thank you card for helping my gd to get thur the year like she did. For her hard work and endless hours she gave not to just my gd but all the other kids in the classroom.
Many times the teacher doesn't get a thank you from some kids and I wanted to do this on the behave of the class..
She was touched.

Often teachers has to buy things for her class out of her own pocket. We have 2 teachers in the family and they have told us how much money they have to use out of own pocket.. So something for the class that they don't have to buy they always welcome it.. It saves them money..

Since the book fair is aqt the end again this is what I'm planning on doing again..

Hi M.... I am a teacher also and I love GIFT CARDS!!! You can just put 20-25 dollars on one and the teacher is free to use it as they please. Always take care of your child's teacher because it is often a thankless job with many demands. That's why I always do something for my daughter's teachers for every holiday, their birthdays, and I do something big for the whole staff at the end of the year (usually a large sandwich tray from Walmart).

You can get a mall gift card for any amount and the teacher can spend it in any store, restaurant, kiosk, etc... in the mall. These gift cards are also good at multiple malls. For example, you can get one at Collin Creek, but it can still be spent at Stonebriar.

As a retired teacher, I can tell you teachers appreciate gift cards of any amount. In our area, Starbucks, Blockbuster, and Kohl's are the favorites along with restaurant gift cards.

M.,

As a former teacher staying home to raise her children, I can say that teachers really like gifts like dinner cards or movie tickets/cards. I always try to stay away from the knick knack kind of gifts, especially teacher themed stuff because I know from experience those things can pile up and take up lots of space in a classroom that really might not be that abundant in space. And nice cards of appreciation are great, too. As far as an amount, $10 - $25 is great depending on if you really like the teacher and she made your child's year a wonderful experience.

As a teacher I can tell you that gift cards in any amount are always appreciated! Places like Barnes and Noble or Starbucks are great. If you know a place your teacher likes to shop or eat at you could pick a card up for there.

Another idea, and we have done this with my son's preschool teacher, is a movie theme. Buy a sand bucket and fill it with family movie night items (gift card to Blockbuster, soft drinks, microwave popcorn, some candy, etc.)

Bottom line: A simple handwritten appreciation note is treasured. Letting your child's teacher know how much you have appreciated their hard work with your child or something they went out their way to do, etc.

I am a teacher as well as a parent, and some of the nicest gifts I have gotten were handmade thank-you cards from the child, gift cards to Barnes & Noble, and potted plants. Also, anything that might be helpful during the next school year (like pretty notepads, bright post-it notes, and some of the new, bright colored Sharpie markers) would be a thoughtful gift for a teacher.
I agree with the person who said $10-$25. After all, a teacher is a big part of your child's life during that school year and often sees your child more hours out of the day than you do!
Teachers do appreciate any gift that will help them remember your child and that particular school year.

Hello M.,

Depending on your budget you can get her a great gift from a craft store. Find something that your daughter likes and you guys can make it together. Mugs, Shirt, or a plaque from class.

Just some thoughts!

I usually get a nice plant or herb and tie a note around it saying "Thanks for helping Zoe grow". Kind of silly, but....
Or I have found really pretty pitchers at Walmart and put in some Homemade Gourmet Iced Tea mix, or a pretty salad bowl and put in a Homemade Gourmet Pasta mix.
When I am really broke I will make cookies and put a "thanks for being sweet" tag.
I try and keep the gifts to around $5.00- but then I have 3 kids in school, 1 w/ multiple teachers!
Oh! Right now Teusday Morning has some really nice flower shaped Votives w/ 3 per pack- break up the pack for multiple teachers :-)

No matter what I always take the time to write a nice thank you note for all the teacher has done.

I would not get her anything associated with being a teacher...Anything saying "teacher"..they get so much of it and I am sure that they don't want their whole house decorated in it. LOL. I would say a gift card...10.00-25.00 would be fine and a nice card telling him/her that they were appreciated. I do inhome daycare and appreciate even just a card telling me that they appreciate me and what all I do..
