Hi Ladies,
My 19 month old has what looks to me like severe tartar on his teeth. My peds looked and says it wasn't that bad and to wait and take him to a dentist when he is 3.I I would love to do that, however it looks really bad!!I'am not so sure my peds was right.I know these are his baby teeth but will it effect his gums? I don't want to take him to the dentist unless he needs it. Anyone else's toddlers have this and what shoud I do if anything???
Thanks L.
P.S. I brush his teeth as best I can with non floride toothpaste the tartar does not come off.I have even tried scraping it off with my fingernails!!

What can I do next?

Hello!

My cousin is a pediatric dental hygentist and says kids should see the dentist by age 1. She says they see alot of kids at 2 & 3 years who already have cavities and have to fillings! Hope this helps.

If you are paying for a family dentist co-pay, you might as well make the appointment and take your son so that he will be on the road to good dental care as soon as possible. Even though, I think our ped. said 3 as well. I have a 20 month old and I'm currently researching good pediatric dentists in my area (Lake Worth/Boynton/Delray) so that I can take my DD. Good luck!

I took my 4 y/o to the dentist for the 1st time between the ages of 1 and 2. (sorry i do not remember) His pedi told me to take him for 2 reasons. The 1st to get a cleaning and the 2nd so he would be be "afraid".

What you can do is find a Pedi Dentist and see what age do they start seeing children. The dentist my son went too is in Miami Lakes but he has not been since his 3rd birthday.

My ped told me to start my daughter at about 2 unless you have concerns. My ped dentist that my daughter (who is now 5) sees told me that they usually recommend them to start going as soon as they have teeth.

I would take him to the dentist and let your dentist make the call. If the dentist thinks it should be treated, she will treat it, if the dentist thinks it should wait, she will tell you to come back when baby is 3 years.

Hi. I would take him to a childrens dentist. Its better to be safe than sorry. It is good to give him the dentist experience at a young age before he develops fears of things. I have a 5 year old who is terrified to see the dentist. I wish i would have took her at a much younger age. But if you really are hessitant to take him maybe call a childrens dentist office and get there advise.
