Tanning and Waxing Question

So we have a trip to Mexico coming up, it's my husbands company trip so it is no kids thing. We are going out on a morning boat trip, like one of those where you wear a suit and cute cover up but you sit around with a margarita :) I will also hopefully be on the beach a lot so between the four hour boat trip etc I feel I need a base tan so I don't fry myself, plus I am soooooooooo white with a lot spider veins on my legs so I will just look better tan as well. Anyway my tanning question is, I have eight weeks until the trip so if I tan twice a week, maybe three times the week before I go can I go from very white to slightly tan? Is that enough? Now for the waxing question, I was thinking of trying the Brazilian wax, but I am just a little weird about it I guess. Do you wear anything when having it done? These aren't doctors you know.... For those who have had it, have they ever gotten your wax too hot? I go to a pretty nice salon/spa for my hair, so I may ask about it. How long do you stay smooth after? Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

I would go with a self tanning lotion or get a spray tan. Tanning beds are SO bad for you. I've heard really good things about jergens tanning stuff. I might even get some for myself :)

I've never had to wax anything, so I can't help you there

My husband and I had a week in Mexico recently to celebrate turning 40 (With no kids!). I am pale and believe that tanning is very very bad for you. I just used sunscreen (the good stuff) and wore a cute hat while I was there and did not burn. That is what I suggest.

I think you should go with a spray tan and make sure you keep plenty of sunscreen on while you are on your trip. There are some pretty sexy hats you can wear to keep your face shaded.

The first time I got waxed, I thought I was going to die. I came right out and asked if it hurt. They said, "Well, the wax is pretty hot". Okay.
I don't know WHAT I was thinking....maybe the wax burned the hair off, hell. I didn't know. Then, they started ripping hair. I'm not even that hairy to begin with, but I just about came off that table. I said, "Holy Moses! You didn't tell me it was going to hurt that bad!"
The woman said that they found it was best not to get into too much detail with newbies.

Anyway, I was actually happy with the whole waxing thing. I had my legs done too. I stayed really smoothe for quite a while.
I don't usually mention things of an overly personal nature, but having sex after a nice waxing is actually quite enjoyable. There's something about being really smoothe around your most intimate lady bits that was worth the waxing for me.

Your salon should know what they're doing or be able to recommend you to someone.

It's not something you have to do every week, but for this special occasion, I think you'd find it worth it. It's SO much better than shaving.

A spray tan will minimize your veins and give you a glow.

I hope you have a wonderful time with your hubby!!

I just got off of Caring Bridge dot com reading about a childhood friend who has stage 4 melanoma. Please don't tan. Wear a super cute long sun dress. They're sexy, you're covered and you'll feel great about your body.

Some waxing places you can move your panties to one side or they'll give you paper panties. If you go to a reputable place, wax should be perfect temp. Stays smooth for a week for me so I'd sent an appointment a day or two before. Try it once before so you know how it will affect you.

If you are in Houston go to Helena's Brazilian - ask for Helena. ###-###-#### She KNOWS what she is doing. It is not comfortable to be waxed but she is quick and good. You are draped with a paper sheet but obviously if you are getting your lady parts waxed- she's going to be pretty up close and personal. It lasts for a month to 6 weeks and the more often you wax, the longer it lasts. You can get a "modified Brazilian" which is less expensive and leaves a tiny strip of trimmed hair but certainly would do for any swimsuit.
Go with a spray on tan at a tanning place. My teenagers do it all the time. Do it a few days before you leave- it lasts about a week. It will give you the color you want and make you feel tan. Use sunscreen and by the time the spray on has worn off, you will have picked up some natural color.
I LOVE the Target spray on sunscreen. Just as good as the name brand stuff and less expensive. It REALLY gets the coverage and allows for a tan but we NEVER burn using it. We use SPF30 and get a lovely light tan. When I have forgotten the spray stuff and had to use other we always burn. Even using other expensive stuff.
Don't do the tanning booth. There is NOTHING good about them.
Have a wonderful trip. Love, love, love Mexico.
(Not affiliated with Helena's or Target- just a happy customer!)

I use Jergens tanning cream for light skin. Love it.

Re: waxing if you are doing the Brazilian wax don't wear anything or you could just get a bikini wax and wear your panties. FYI... The first time I got waxed it left me with terrible bruises. (The first time definetely hurts the most. My skin was just so sensitive. You may want to get waxed now, then do it again right before your trip if you need to). Have fun!

I'm an SPF 100 kind of girl. I've lost one friend to skin cancer and another friend is my same age but looks 15 years older thanks to her history of tanning. I'm strongly opinionated against tanning beds. Please, learn to love yourself as you are and don't speed up aging or bring about your early death.

If you just can't bear the thought of being pale in a swimsuit, try an airbrush tan. But remember to slather on the sunscreen during the trip!

In regards to tanning; I love the self-tanning lotions out now. I use the Kroger brand for medium skin and I have a nice glow to my otherwise white legs. Just make sure you either wear gloves or wash your hands afterwards, otherwise your nails and palms will turn orange.
In regards to waxing; I've had it done by both an esthetician in a "Salon & Day Spa" and the owner of a salon that caters to Eastern Indians and Mediterraneans. The former used was that was too hot, trimmed as much as she waxed, left bruises and missed areas because the room was so dark. She took an hour. The latter used a warm sugar wax, no bruising, very thorough and took 20 minutes. The difference between the two women was that the esthetician had been trained but had little experience. The Indian woman had been waxing since she was 12, waxing being part of her culture. Another big difference was that the esthetician just placed everything and ripped while the Indian woman placed everything, pulled the skin taunt and zipped. I was smoother than a baby's butt. Her's lasted 3 weeks before I started seeing re-growth.
Have fun on your trip.

If you are gonna booth tan I'd start now, probably 3 times a week. But I agree with the others, I'd go do a spray tan right now and see how you like it and how it reacts on you... and then you will feel more comfortable getting sprayed right before the trip.

Just be careful with the booth, there is scientific proof the do the same damage as the sun.

You can get burned really badly in there too. I'd start off with the minimal time so you don't get too sunburned.

You could use a tanning cream/spray for color, but please be aware that it won't protect you from burning. I second the long sundress idea. I'm a pale redhead and keeping covered has served me well for my entire adulthood. I did get quite a few serious burns as a child, though, and have many damaged spots that I have to keep getting frozen off. Next year, there are a bunch more.

There's no way on my budget to afford professional waxing, but I have devised my own DIY process that works really well. I use a clean, dry finger cot on my forefinger, which grips hairs a few at a time so I can yank them. (I keep thumb naked so I can feel the hairs). This is not terribly painful. I don't have to deal with "modesty" worries, either.
