Talent Show Idea

Our family is going on a 4 day vacation to celebrate my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. My sisters-in-law have decided to put on a talent show and every person is required to participate. I'm at a loss for ideas - I have 3 & 5 year old boys, so my husband and I would like to have all 4 of us do 'talent' together. The tough part is that we don't have any musical or dance talent. I'm also fairly sure the boys with just 'freeze' on stage or not get up there at all. Any cute suggestions?

What can I do next?

You could do a lip sync show, and play a song from their erra, perhaps a popular song for the year that they were married.

Download the song and listen to it ALL the time until you become VERY familiar with the words, etc. Come up with costumes...and, pretend that you are all in a band singing the song. Also, for the 5 yr old, make him the main singer...that'll keep him engaged more and put the 3 year old on guitar. But, lip syncing is sooo much easier than just singing...it's alot less on the spot pressure.

Do a magic show where you and hubby do a Penn and Teller routine and have the kids be the disappearing rabbits or disappearing assistants. The kids don't have to talk, just hold the hat, hide in a box, or stand there and look cute. You can make it wacky and comedic where one of you does all the talking or no one talks...just mimes the routines, so if mistakes happen it'll be funny and add to the fun. To take this idea a step further you could spoof the master magicians out there.. for instance for levitation, you could stand behind the littlest and lift him in the air like he's levitating, while your husband waves his hands magically.

Or make it very interactive where the whole family can participate in the coin behind the ear stuff, trying to find/hide the card from the deck, or under which cup the marble is hiding etc. The little ones can participate by picking the participants from the audience. Magic kits are at most toy stores and places like Target and Walmart. Go online if you're thinking of doing more illusion type stuff.

Be sure to have great music in the backdrop.. any kind could work depending on the costumes or theme you choose...carnival music and everyone wears top hats and capes for a traditional feel, the theme from James Bond and everyone dresses like a secret agent for a mysterious atmosphere, or rap and everyone dresses in converse and hip hop wear for some flare. You could get creative and use a large box as a prop for the big finale with the whole family climbing inside and "disappearing" by sneaking out the back of the box. If a big box is too hard to find, have a curtain or sheet set up, and everyone can go behind it. Be sure to have a family member selected to open the box on the count of 4..to reveal the big disappearance. LOL!

How about reading a cute poem. It could be an anniversary poem or just a cute love poem. You and your hubby can alternate reading the verses or lines.

Here is a website that has a few free poems about 50th anniversary: http://www.poemsource.com/50th-wedding-anniversary-poems....

The boys are kind of young to add too much but dress them up so they look cute and have them hold up pictures they drew on poster board about love or their grandparents. If they make a few pictures they can flip through them while you read your poem. Everyone loves a cute kid!

How about learning an easy song that you sing and do sign language? That way, if the kids just stop singing, they might keep signing.
