We recently took a trip downtown via the EL to find that we had to lift the stroller up the stairs. Is there an elevator or ramp we aren't seeing?

What can I do next?

It depends where you get on. I know there are elevators at the Clark/Washington stop and at the Washington/Wells stop. Good luck

Hi H.,

The only ramps and elevaters you will find on the els will be the ones with handicap access. Other than that, your lifting the stroller. My suggestion is to get a baby harness so you can wear your son and then you can be as mobile as you want to be! I did it with my daughter for a year and a half until she got too heavy. The Baby Bjorn is the most popular model and one of the more costly ones. I actually got one at Target that lasted me until she got too heavy and big; about a year. It had as Italian sounding name and began with a "V" but I don't remember what it was. It cost half as much as the Bjorn and worked like a champ.

Strollers are a pain on the el unless you are going places with handicap access. If you have to take a bus or an el, use a light weight unbrella stroller because they fold up in a snap. But with a 2 month old, wearing him is the way to go to enjoy the City!!!

Be sure to ask the attendant once you get to your stop. Often times the elevators are not in plain view.

Hi H., I was also shocked the first time I took the EL. Not all of the "handicapped" stations have elevators. Very misleading!! You can check the CTA website http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ or try contacting them at 1-888-968-7282 or ____@____.com

Good luck!

Hi H.-

I'm fairly certain there are elevators at the Red line State Street/Chicago stop as well as the Red line stop at Washington/State near Marshall Fields (which connects to the Blue line downtown). I'd double check but it's something to check out.
