Hi R.,
I had the same problem with my daughter. I ended up buying the diaper safety pins and pinned her diaper and they worked great. I found them at Walmart. Good luck!

My grandson, who has just turned 2, has now found that a fun way of entertaining himself in the crib is to take off his diaper. As you may guess, he is not potty trained nor showing any interest. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to rectify this problem. We have tried putting him down with shorts on but he just pulls them off, we have also attempted to put the diaper on backwards, again failure. As we are in Texas, it is too hot for him to wear a zipped up sleeper backwards which I used to do to his mother. Yes, this seems to be a generation problem. Any suggestions!!!!!!
Thanks for all the great advice. Believe it not not, as soon as I posted this question, my grandson stopped taking off his diaper. His mother is making sure that he is sleeping with pyjama bottoms on at all times. If the problem reoccurs, I will try the underwear over the bottoms, I think that is a brilliant idea. Again, a huge thank you for all your great ideas and for caring.

my daughter turned 2 in april and let me tell u as soon as she turned 2 thats exactly what she started doing! everytime shes supposed to be sleeping she takes off her diaper. Lately she hasnt done it as much but she still does it at least once a day. luckily tho she is potty trained for the most part so when she needs to go "potty" she tells me and i let her out to go. i know this isnt any help but i just thought i'd let u know that ur grandson is definitely not the only one lol.
My son does the same thing, but he's more fascinated with his genitals, which either means he wants the diaper off or he pulls one side open, or pushes it down, which either way results in a very messy crib and/or baby when he wakes up. I disagree on the PJs, 'cause he pretty much only wears those at night, with a few slight variations. They have some very light weight zippered ones, which I use, but I use a baby cloth diaper pin to pin the zipper shut at the top, under the little button strap. Always a onesie and PJ pants at least, but prefer the zippered footie PJs. We also keep our house about 72 degrees, but his bedroom tends to be the coolest in the house, so I haven't had problems with him getting hot, even with thicker jammies on. In the past I tried double diapering him (putting a swimmer or other diaper on top of his diaper so he had more layers to get through), and I also have put a very light weight onesie UNDER his zipper PJs. I had limited success with both, but the safety pin seems to work the best.
Good luck - I'm still waiting for this "phase" to pass, too! =)
Put a mattress pad down and let him go cammando! He'll tire of sleeping in a puddle, and therefor teach himself how to stop peeing in his sleep.
Or...try a onsie ~ he may have a struggle getting to the snaps!
Good luck!
When my son started to do the same thing, I changed him into a onesie at nap times with shorts on top of them. He would usually pull the shorts off but had no success getting the onesie unbuttoned! This phase was short lived. He is now back in regular shorts and tee shirts with a pull up at nap time. (My son is 2 1/2)
Hope this helps! Good Luck to you!
My friend that had this problem with 2 of her kids used duck tape. That seemed to do the trick!
I have had one who did that too. I ended up putting undies on over the diaper as he didn't know how to pull them down. Try it and see if it works.
