I get depressed and looked up a bunch of info on supplements to help out. I started Fish oil and a b complex and it did help a lot. Now it could be that i wanted it to work so it did, but i could tell the difference it made. there were a lot more supplements that were listed as helpful. I got my info on ehow.com and webmd.com other sites just confirmed what they had said.

Our son takes it and we've recently started taking it, too. He has ADHD and it's supposed to help somewhat with focus over time. We haven't seen any improvement at all, though. We take it as adults just for the health benefits.

Be very careful and research before buying any fish oil capsules (which are expensive). We wasted a lot of money on several brands that smelled horrendous. Couldn't even get our son near them and I couldn't blame him ... just opening the jars brought out a horrible smell. Many cause fish burps, too. We found some chewable ones at Costco that taste great (zero fish taste) and use those.

My husband and I take fish oil for the physical health benefits because we don't each fish much...if at all. I am not familiar with it's abilities to improve mood or depression. Speaking from my own past of depression (diagnosed, medication, etc.) I see no improvement in how I feel but I could just be an anomily too!
If you decide to take it, you may want to consider taking it at night to fend off any fishy burp issues. I have also recently read it comes in liquid-flavored formula so you could add it to a drink without the fish flavor!

My doc explained it like this - it "lubricates" the synapses in the brain. So can it improve mood? Maybe. I do know that my husband takes it for his heart, I tried it and my son tried it. It gave all three of us REALLLLLLY freaky dreams. Not nightmares, just really vivid, strange dreams.

It helps lower your cholesterol intake. I am currently taking it and it's helping in my weight loss probably because of what I mentioned earlier. I have depression, but haven't seen any results with that just yet.

I don't know about mood, but it certainly helps with weight loss. You can lose inches around the middle just by taking fish oil, which always helps my mood! I just spent five loooong years living in the Seattle area and noticed a big difference in my mood when I took vitamin D, but that's because it's so horribly wet and grey there that I was seriously D deficient after a year there! You can also try HTP5 and something called GABA, I think, for helping with depression.
