I have a dental hygenist in the family and she say around 3 because there is no cooperation with a child any younger, they just can not stay still.
I recently read somewhere the parents should be taking their children to the dentist starting at age 1. My daughter is almost 17 months old and has never been to the dentist. My question is in two parts. First, what exactly is the dentist going to do with a 17 month old who will not sit still and hates anything in her mouth (although we do brush her teeth) and Second, Does anyone know of a good dentist for kids in the Stow, Hudson Twinsburg area?

I had the same concern when my son was a yr. I called around to all the pediatric dentist in the area. He is in Fairlawn. They didnt' want to see him till he was closer to his 3rd birthday.
At 2 and half he was complaining about his teeth. I called a dentist. She like well this is what will be done.
They will look in the mouth and that is it. So we waited till he turned 3.
Just make sure you are brushing the teeth. And make sure that you limit the amount of sweets.
I did find a Pediatric dentist at Cleveland Metro Health. My 9 yr old liked the dentist. And she is picky.
I took both my kids to the dentist after they turned 3, thats what everyone had told me, and everything i read said 3.
WE go to Stow Dental Group on Darrow Rd. They have drinks for the kids, let them watch cartoons, and are just very friendly.
Good luck.
AWESOME dentist was Nick Limbert in Cuyahoga Falls by the Cathedral Buffet...He was taken over by another childs dentist that is just as GREAT, I can't remember the name but there number is ###-###-####....The whole practice is kids, the have games, toys, they used to have a dog that ran around the place don't know if they still do....I went there when i was young and I was never scared! I have to take my son that is now 2 to the dentist and all they do is look at the teeth and make sure everything looks fine. It is just the routine they want them to be comfortable with. Since your baby won't let you look into the mouth, they might just want you to sit with her in your lap and try to have her open the mouth by watching them look into yours. Good Luck
I just went to my dentist and asked the hygenist and she said 3 years old is when they should start going. I was surprised because I had previously heard 2 yrs but she said unless they are having problems, all they would do is look in their mouth (they wouldn't do a cleaning or anything) so she basically said to save your $$.
Yep, I think 3 is the age my dentist recommends. They will just count their teeth at that time and clean them if they'll sit still long enough.
