Tailgating Beginner

As a Southern woman, it shames to me say that I have never tailgated - I know, for shame! (Hee hee hee) Our Sunday School class is planning a get-together next month and we are "tail-gating". It will only be in the church parking lot on a Friday night and there will be no actual football game to attend (unless the guys start a pick up game in the grass). I need an easy, beginner tailgater recipe. Suggestions on some ideas? Maybe even decorating the mini-van ideas? I wanna get in the spirit and have some fun, just not sure how!

What can I do next?

If you can find christmas lights (or fall-themed lights) to plug in to your cigarette lighter in your van, that'd be fun to string from the trunk of the van (once opened).
Glow-sticks/necklaces might be fun for the kids.

You'll want plenty of ice in your cooler with drinks for the adults AND kids. If there's tea or plastic cups, it's always nice to have a Sharpie on hand to write names on.

Boom box with music? David Crowder or Jeremy Riddle my fav.

Foldable chairs.

Recipe? Is there a theme? If it were me I'd do chili or somethingthat stays warm easily (crock pot, camping stove). I am not a griller.

Have fun!

I thought this was a great idea and have shared it with my church family. We are going to incorporate it somehow for Halloween so the kids will have somewhere safe to go and fun to do at the same time. I like the idea of lights...Thanks for the idea! Hope yours turns out as fun as I hope ours does!

I thought tailgating was following the car in front of you too closely. You Sunday School class is going to do that? On purpose? And you need a recipe? And you're decorating your minivan??? This ol' Grami is cornfused : )

When ever i think of "tailgating" i think of drunk fat men wearing no shirts but painted team logos on their bellies... dont they usually grill meat and drink beer?? haha not really appropriate.. maybe their wives make some killer potato salad though :) GL
