We gave our son hot dogs (the extra fat in them is needed for proper brain development). We started off by slicing them into 1/2-inch thick (give or take) slices, and then cut each piece into 4 pieces, so there is NO possibility of choking on them. You can do the same with grapes ~ just cut them into 1/4's, and make sure he's only getting one piece at a time. yes, it slows down meal time, but safety is the major factor here. Corn does not digest, so it will come out in his diapers, but go ahead and start letting him eat some of that, as well. Your son can also start eating mac 'n cheese, too. Cottage cheese is great, too! Our son is 2 1/2 now, and he wouldn't go to bed tonight until he had eaten some of MY dinner, even though he had eaten his, already. (Dad made him some mac 'n cheese with a hot dog cut up into it, and I was eating a pasta salad!) We also make up a lot of oatmeal at our house. We sweeten our son's with applesauce, usually (100%, without the added sugar) or cut up bananas. Plums and orange slices are great, too. Basically, if you and your husband like it, your son can probably eat it, too, with the exceptions of peanut butter and eggs (allergy issues). Some other foods our son LOVES are peas, squash, spaghetti (he's spoiled to Dad's, hates the canned stuff), peaches, pineapple chunks, peeled apples. Use your imagination!
Even though your son only has 6 teeth right now, those other teeth will be coming in pretty fast now. As long as the foods are fairly soft, it should not be a problem for him to eat. The other key I can give you is if someone in your family has an allergy to a specific food, I would delay introducing that food to your son. My sister is allergic to peanuts (but not to the extent of having an epi pen if she touches them), so we are delaying introducing our son to PB&J sandwiches until he is at least 4 years old.
(Sorry this got "convoluted"...been having severe back pain all day, and my concentration is "off" big time!)
